I am trying to find a website where I could find out more about volunteering some of my time. I am pretty occupied but I think I could spare one weekend and one weekday. I tried volunteermatch.com but they have "temporary" needs. I was looking for something local near Fairfax that I could do on weekly basis. Any input is appreciated.

ECHO is Springfield is always looking for volunteers. Pretty sure they are not open on weekends. Local schools always need help. YOu could volunteer to work directly with the kids or help out in the library. Public libraries also need volunteers as well. There is also that center on Braddock Rd @ Burke Station Rd. that houses mentally challenged people.

Have you tried Volunteer Fairfax (www.volunteerfairfax.org)? They should be able to hook you up with lots of ideas.

I have read that the animal shelter needs people to come by and walk the dogs for a break from being in the cages. Very worthwhile from what I hear.
