I wish the FCPD web people would do something to keep the pic proportions right. The cars look too weird unless you view the pics off the page.

I noticed neither car had front plate... is it standard procedure for the cops to remove them when they are in the impound lot, or is it just coincidence?

Little wonder insurance execs charge outrageous premiums for young male drivers. And I can only imagine the reception these two received when they went home that evening - telling Mom and Dad they faced serious misdemeanor charges and that their cars were impounded, likely never to be seen or driven again, akin to an auto theft but with no chance to file any claim. Query how many times their parents informed them of their stupidity?

They were both 18... easy enough for their parents to kick them off the policies if they were still on them.

so what's going to happen to those cars? Are they eventually will be released to their owners or are they "taken away". I am not sure about the n/a supra but I am sure that the VW is financed and most likely under his parents name. Would the car be given back to the parent or is it as good as gone???

The cars are subject to forfeiture. This is why I say 18 or not they had to catch heck for sacrificing a family asset. But such are the perils of street racing.

Interesting. Since they haven't been convicted yet, I wonder under what law they have enacted the initial seizure. Seems like a poorly worded law. It might be hard to prove this was a "prearranged, organized, and planned" race.

agreed, and where's the due process of law? I mean, isn't impounding their cars against the notion that you are innocent until proven guilty?

Whether you like it or not, these kids paid for the roads with the gasoline tax. I feel that the state has the responsibility to at least build a race track where this can be done in a safe manner. It's outrageous that there are no other avenues close by to engage in this activity. Then people wonder why there is street racing going on.

Building a track won't totally eliminate street racing, but at least curb it. The closest track is an hour and half away in Maryland. I've raced there before and one time I had to drive my broken car home double clutching and grinding gears. Made me never want to go back. At least when I blew my motor locally it was a cheap tow home.

No, it's not. At the very least, the state could allow a track to be built by a private company. From what I've heard, people have tried in the past, and the county has blocked it. The reason is the noise issue. No one wants a racetrack that will run til 12 or 1 am on friday and saturdays around their house. There are plenty of places in prince william county that would make great racetracks with no noise issues. One was the 1/8" mile track in Manassas that shut down. The company sold it to developers. Now it's just a bunch of mcmansions.

I detest people like you. I don't go around saying "you shouldn't play XXXXXXXX" whatever thing that interests you, in this case I'll guess that it's either scrapbooking or knitting. Then you try to say that providing a LEGAL avenue for an otherwise illegal and at time dangerous activity is a bad idea. Learn to accept that people are different than you and have different activities.

how do you figure????????? still wondering.. street racers pay money in the form of tax on gasoline. these dollars go to fund roads/transportation.......... shouldn't they have a say in where the money is spent?

Okay, enough is enough. Let's close this thread. Two Hispanic youth broke the law and were caught. Fortunately, no one was injured or killed due to their reckless driving. This county surely does not need a race track for its citizens, nor those folks whose culture supports low riders (I don't think that the cars in question were low riders; however, it's germane). After lawyers' expenses, raised auto insurance premiums, and other license limitations and points, these kids maybe learned a lesson--which is a good one for all of us. Obey the traffic laws and drive safely. Thank you Fairfax safety officers for your diligence!

I like hearing talk about the idea of a legal place to race.

I agree with tomahawk, just because the subject does not directly involve your interest does not mean that we should completely shut it down and ignore it. I think building a race track at one of the local counties would be a great idea. Obviously street racing is not going to stop no matter how expensive it gets and no matter how much you the county will try to enforce it. That being said something should be done about besides saying"Two Hispanic youth broke the law and were caught" and forgetting the bigger issue here. Perhaps if a track was built we would see an incredible decrease in street racing and maybe even speeding. Less street racing/speeding equals less deaths and accidents.

Also what does the fact that they were Hispanic has anything to do with the issue and reference to the low riders was unecessary as well. Hispanics are not the only ones to ever get caught street racing and the subject of race has nothing to do with the incident

No, they shouldn't. Street racing is both dangerous and illegal. They give up their "say" in where the money is spent when they choose to endanger the public by their reckless actions.

Watcher, don't get me wrong as I am not here to defend anyone but you are telling me that you always drive perfect? You never go over the limit? You never talk on the cell phone? You never speed up to make the yellow light? or you never cut anyone off or have been in an accident? Dont make me laugh. The difference between you and some of the people that get arrested is you, along with many others have not been caught. It's the same as talking down on drunk drivers when at one point of you life you have broke the law and drove drunk BUT you did not get caught. I am all for driving with care and respect for other on the road but nobody gives up their right as to where their tax money goes when they break a minor law. I hope both those kids get two years in jail and their cars taken away. We as Fairfax citizens will not stand this!

I also support any law that takes away speeders cars. If your over the speed limit, jail time and your car should be seized and sold at auction! Certainly if you just got your license!

Maybe next time you will read the speed limit sign!

Your argument is without merit. We are talking about street racing, not minor traffic violations. And do not assume I have driven drunk.

We just need to have a place where these racers can come hang out and race in a controlled environment.

In Hampton roads, Langley Speedway host it annual "wacky Wednesdays".

Where Racers come, and pay x amount of dollars i think its like 30.00.

Ant they have: Time Attacks which the racers try to gget the best rack time.
best time wins 50.00
Burnouts, best burnout wins 50.00
And lastly they had One-on-one Drags, are double elimination races consisting of 1 lap around track against another competitor.

All the racers had to have the following:
- Street Legal: Car registration, plates and inspection stickers must be legal and valid.

- Must have a helmet (DOT or M rated)

- Must be 18 years of age or older to compete.

This has work extremely well. and fun for all.

A friend of mine been to every race for the past 3 years. and now has a +1 driving record. lol

If the Nova are did this, this will help with the problem.

Also I know Nova area had the MID-Atlantic mega meet. where they can come and show off there cars. also in a controlled environment.

If we all got together and just gave them a place to show/race there cars. the illegal racing scene will eventually come down..

Just my 2cents.

Wasn't the street racing accident in Maryland sort of close to the track in Mechanicsville, MD? I think with all these riced-out slow cars racing, actually getting times showing how slow their cars are would deter them, racing on the street they just race each other. Plus some of the illegal aspect of street racing probably draws most of them.

Most of the ones being driven by teenagers racing on the streets are pretty slow, from what I've seen hanging out with some of them.

Who said it would be a government track?

When you race at a track well most that i been to you sign a wavier saying that if anythings go wrong you are responsible for what happens at the track. So if you wreck your car you can't claim it on insurance, etc.

and yet it wont stop hysterical mothers from trying to ruin the owner's good name and sue them into the ground when billy plows into that wall. before you say it, billy will plow into the wall and die, he always does.

Old Dominion Speedway is still in operation--the developer decided that maybe, since there's a lot of homes for sale and prices are still dropping, it'd probably be a bad idea to build houses right now.
