FERRUM, Va. - Classes were canceled and a small private college went on lockdown Tuesday as police searched for a man who was seen with a gun on campus, officials said.

Ferrum College President Jennifer Braaten activated an alert system and ordered the school locked down after a member of the housekeeping staff reported seeing a young man walk into a residence hall with a handgun, Franklin County Sheriff Ewell Hunt said at a news conference.

I go to Ferrum and they made it into a huge deal by bringing 350 police type people. They made us sit inside a gym for 8 hours and said that it was a white student. By now tho, they have figured it was a spanish kid that was originally questioned and viewed as a suspect. Overall, it was pretty crazy seein so many pigs.

Yeah, dude. You know, I'll also bet the "pigs" get pretty sick of seeing and dealing with so many defiant hippie-type students as well. I'll bet it wears on them better than deodorant wears on a long-haired, smart-mouthed kid.

Don't stereotype like everyone else on fairfaxunderground. Cops suck at life and we know that but when a pig with a shotgun or whatever the gun he had comes up to you and tells you to shutup when you weren't the one saying anythin you would feel the same way. Or in a case when I was in high school when I was walking home instead of driving drunk, and then I get a gun pulled on me and eventually get charged with drunk in public the day after your 18th birthday even tho its 2 am and obviously noone is in the public vicinity.

Police should have special training to work on college campuses. Unfortunately most college law enforcement workers have little in the way of credentials to qualify them to work with young adults.

Your right. The police at Ferrum aren't able to control a situation like that but all the Ferrum College Police have been involved with a police department but work here after they retire from the force. And there nicer than most cops..
