Most churches are locked when they aren't having services. Been that way in this area for well over twenty years, at least.

Any reason why you have to actually be *in* the church to pray? God can't hear you unless you're inside or something?

Our church not only had to lock-up but install a security system
as well. Seems homeless nutjob/drunks were sneaking in at night
and turning on the heat for the whole building and staying overnight
until around 6 a.m. Nobody caught on until a janitor came in one
morning and distinctly remembered turning it off the night before.
Then the gas bill came. Ouch!

Your church should be reaching out to the homeless and not let freeze in the cold. WWJD? You should be ashamed.

Who says this church isn't? And what are YOU doing to reach out to the homeless? I'm Catholic, and I know my Fairfax church hosts the hypothermia shelter every year. I also know St. Leo's actively helps the poor, hungry, and homeless thru a food pantry associated with the St. Vincent dePaul Society, among other programs. All Catholic churches provide aid to those in need; such acts are a fruit of our faith. Still, churches obviously need to take precautions to protect against vandals. How can anyone possibly hold that against this or any other organization?

Because there are vandals.
