Ideas on what to write on the pledge after you sign it
Posted by: FUNdamental ()
Date: December 29, 2011 07:30PM

After I sign the Republican pledge, I plan on writing a note, a similar act to Bush's "signing statements," underneath my signature.

Here are some of the comments I have been kicking around;

"You can't be serious."

"I get jokes."

"Am I in Cuba?"

"I reserve the right to change my mind."

"I reserve the right to substitute candidates"

"I understand God will not hold me accountable."

Do you have any ideas on what to write on your pledge?

Of course it's not enforceable. It's just a deterrant, and a bad one at that. That's why it's time we finally have official party registration in Virginia.

So what happens to the independant voters who prefer not to declare to a two party system?

You ran for Delegate and sat for the bar (did you pass?) and you don't know that we don't register to vote by party in this Commonwealth. Thus, no registered Republicans, Democrats or Independents.

Turn in your voter card, your bar card and your driver's license!

Sheesh! What a maroon?

If you'd read the whole thread, St. Thomas, you'd recognize I was answering a question about my stance that we should have actual party registration in Virginia.

I loved you in The Tudors.

Re-write the pledge on the form: “I pledge that I intend to support the nominee of the of the Republican Party the most qualified nominee for president.” and then write in "Bubbles the Chimp"

GOP fail.

Another stupid gaff by the Republicans. A loyalty oath, are you for real? Setting aside that it has no real effect the word loyalty oath sounds like something out of a communist regime. I dont care if Arlington Democrats did it. Just because someone else does something stupid doesnt mean you have to do it to.

It would be better if the commonwealth stopped recognizing party registration and removed the D's and R's from the ballots. It would be very hard to change our two-party system but at least this would be a start.

The only party registration on the ballot now is for state and federal offices. Local offices and "non-partisan" like school board don't get registration. It was actually an issue in the last cycle, because a lot of folks were annoyed that the Chairman races and the Supervisors races didn't have party affiliation on the ballot.

I prefer having party affiliation on the ballot because it makes it easier for voters. Some people just want to vote for one party, and that's fine.

The two party system isn't the problem. It's getting good people to participate that's the problem.

Looking at the law, there is nothing that would prohibit a signing statement. I will just explain to the Republican Operative manning the polls that since it does not prohibit a signing statement, a signing statement is legal.

And since I have to sign a pledge of support under what I like to call the Romney Fundraising Poll Tax and Voter Intimidation Act" I will include a $25 check made payable to Mitt Romney and staple it to my support pledge.

Will the $25 check stop the VA GOP from using the form which has my signature and my printed name and will include identifying information - my voting precinct etc-as a future fundraising tool? What will be done with the forms after the election?

I may be paranoid, but remember when the GOP said Obama was indoctrinating school kids by telling them to study hard, do their homework, and eat more vegetables?

And I want my wife to write on her pledge "you can not tell me how to vote; only my husband can. That is a Republican value".

I will write "Should the Gracious and Mericful Allah allow it to be."

I mean, can we use a signing stgatement on our pledge? President Obama has so far issued 18 signing statements and he is a socialist, communist and marxist. George W Bush, a Republican, a conservative, and most relevant of all - a Christian, issued 181 signing statements. So signing statements are a Republican value, right?

Couldn't disagree more. 2 heads of the same monster with each side pandering to the extremes of their base? No thanks. A majority of Moderates with some common sense could do more in 2 years than what's gone on over the last decade. But it'll never happen.

That's right - it will never happen. So that's why moderates with common sense, like me, are working within the two-party system to try and bring some sanity back.

Exactly, but the moderates don't donate enough or reliably show up to the polls. The wacko Christians do both, so here you have today's GOP that has ditched fiscal responsibility and common sense to fight for radical social issues. You hear more about gay marriage than anything budget related.

Same with the middle class in general. We don't have enough money to matter, especially after Citizens United.

Moderates are also too hard to read. Personally I am all over the spectrum. Just to list two examples, I'm a gun owner who thinks homosexuals deserve equal rights. Anyone going after my vote? Nope. Another moderate could be completely different. The pro-gun, pro-gay rights politician won't work for the other moderate and he just shunned the Christian Taliban vote. It just isn't worth the trouble for a campaign to go after my vote.

So every election, I look to see who is the worst choice and vote for the other guy. Until some great populist movement stands up for the middle class and common sense approaches to government, all we'll continue to get is rich guys on the extremes of either side.

A lot of things need to change to break the cycle, but it always comes back to the dollars. Public campaign financing should be priority #1. Take the donation game out of the equation.

Hillary's organization is just trying to enforce the same kind of party discipline that the Republicans have had for years.

Most of the time, dealing with all the fractious factions within the Democratic party is like herding cats.
