Don't Fairfax cops encourage bicycler's to obey all the road signs?

except for one thing Gravis, there was NO LAW BROKEN on that tape. I watched it several times and couldn't find anything wrong. What am I missing?

in case you didnt know, all cyclists are required by law, to follow all the traffic laws that cars must obey. if you notice on the right side of the road, there is a stop sign and at no point do they stop. so, law broken, as the thread title expresses, they failed to obey a stop sign.

§ 46.2-800. Riding bicycles, electric personal assistive mobility devices, electric power-assisted bicycles, or mopeds; riding or driving animals.

Every person riding a bicycle, electric personal assistive mobility device, electric power-assisted bicycle, moped, or an animal or driving an animal on a highway shall be subject to the provisions of this chapter and shall have all of the rights and duties applicable to the driver of a vehicle, unless the context of the provision clearly indicates otherwise.

Anybody familar with Fairfax County would know that that's a video of the Reston Town Center last year while it was under construction. Agree?

That said, THERE IS NO LAW BROKEN. Market St & Library St are not state routes. Believe it or not they are PRIVATE PROPERTY. VDOT did NOT put up those stop signs, therefore they are NOT enforceable.

Under VA code, Police can only enforce DUI, Hit + Run & Reckless driving on private property. Are you saying that those officers were drunk? Did they hit anyone and leave the scene without furnishing proper information? Are you going to argue that by them "blowing through" the stop sign was reckless?

By law, the car in the video didn't even have to stop completely at that sign. Although the car might get stopped and ticketed for reckless driving if the officer could articulate properly that the vehicle acted in a reckless maner (ie. people in the crosswalk, etc..)

do you honestly think that was the only sign they went through? there are plenty of public signs and im sure they didnt stop for a single one.

actually, it is reckless. if a car did the same thing, they could easily cause an accident. the same is true for the cyclists.

i call shenanigans. a cop would definitely ticket any car that didnt stop for that unofficial stop sign, regaurdless of anyone being anywhere near them.

How did he get burnt? I am not a gravis fan, could care less one way or the other (don't love him, don't hate him), but code has all of his facts wrong. The cops did violate an ordinance and FFX has jurisdiction over the road. Why do you want to know his age? Are you a pederast?

I am not wrong. As a citizen/business or whatever, you can not just go and place signs up that look like regular VDOT signs and expect police to just enforce them. There needs to be traffic studies and such before placing a sign up.
