Every time I take the Metro into DC, I feel like I have to deal with the pissy attitudes of the workers of the WEATA. These overpaid, over privileged, unionized pieces of shit, sit around all day on their fat asses doing nothing but talking on their cell phones, or to each other. While ignoring customers(even when they somehow get their fat asses around to helping they give you attitude), I mean clearly given how everything doesn't work or break down, or fails to run on time, they clearly aren't there to maintain the stations.

I hope that when the Republicans kick Obama's ass out of the White House, they privatize Metro and strip their workers of everything they got! So the place can become much better run without their lazy black asses sitting around!

and fare rates are increasing again in June. for the amount they'll be charging i'm going to demand piggy back rides from those fucking worthless bovines in the booths when the escalators don't work.

I was at the King St Metro one time and a family that looked like the Griswolds was having trouble with the map and figuring out the correct fares. They went to the kiosk and instead of helping them the fat surly prick told them to go back and keep trying to read the map until they got it right.

I helped them out and got them the right fare for the right train. This is not the first time and I wonder why Metro sticks the worst employees in the job most dealing with the public. I have heard from others that working for Metro after one year probation is like tenure, you can never be fired unless you commit a serious crime on duty.

Exactly-well at least in the case of public workers. Funny thing is back when the financial crisis first hit they were talking about a bailout for the metro and other transport systems like it. I think firing the sacks of shit who work there would be a good start towards making it profitable again.

Metro management should be shitcanned too. Fares and parking fees keep raising exponentially, while the quality of service declines.

Metro is increasingly unsafe (try riding through DC at night...) and unreliable. The cars are dirty, smell like ass, and are overheated.

I say fire management and privatize the whole operation.

It's not just organizations with unions that have horrible prices, inefficiencies, and attitudes towards customers. It's any organization that has traditionally had little or no competition, such as every government body, Metro, Verizon, Cox Communications, VDOT, airlines, the Post Office, Giant Food Stores, GM, Fannie Mae, etc. But the worst is any government body that ALSO is unionized. As for the employees, there are good ones, and there are bad ones. The problem is, they don't seem to be able to get rid of the bad ones. I hate the Red Line train drivers who will continually quickly open and shut the door, hoping that the evil customer who is halfway on will take the hint and get off, because, by gum, HE (the driver) is in charge here! I was at Union Station and one poor guy had his luggage on the train, and the driver wouldn't let the door get open enough for him to get on or get his luggage off.

At Huntington South, a few years ago, there was one station manager who, no matter how hard it was raining, would NOT open the gates until official opening time. The guy at Huntington Nort was not such a hardass.

Metro AND the union need to get it through their thick skulls that those are customer service jobs, and if you aren't comfortable enough with people to do customer service, then you need to find another job.

BTW, unless the transit police finds that the belligerant drunk is actually assaulting someone, they're not going to do anything.

In DC, are there any white metro drivers? bus drivers?

Some of the cops are white. The engineers for the systems are white and some black. We know an engineer, he is white and says they have to do all the actual engineering work. The professional employees do not repair the equipment, but they direct the foremen and plan for and check the repairs and replacements.

The guy we know said there are three main issues for why the Metro sucks. 1. They didn't put in a third track and the cross-overs and pocket-tracks are way too short, so any breakdown drops the system running way down. 2. Equipment pits and rooms flood because they are not gravity drained, which means they have to repair and replace after each major rain if the pumps go out for even a few minutes. 3. They didn't put in any upgrades for 20 years.

He used to work at another system and says all three things are stupid. He does say the escalators have held up very well because they were high end gear when first put in, only they should have been replaced over the years on a schedule.

(I think I have the names of the track stuff right, if I don't it's me misremembering, not him.)

I am so glad not to be riding Metro anymore, rode it while working at the Navy Yard for 5 years. What a POS system, some cars had no a/c in the summer and no heat in the winter. Then we had to deal with vagrants and whinos pissing and shitting in the seats, not to mention the beggars at the entrance of the station asking for money. Since I stopped riding Metro in 2010, I never went back. When they do something to improve their appearance and work ethic, maybe but I am not holding hope they will improve. Those on the Silver Line better enjoy the new cars, gang bangers and thugs will make them look like shit in no time.

Yeah most of WMATA employees are black (97% that is, according to the Washington Times). That cannot just be a coincidence. I don't know why this is acceptable tho, or why no one has done anything about this.
