HOW IN THE **CK???
Posted by: native ()

Friend of mine was doing a good deed by picking me up from the bar in the middle of the night. I did not actually know that he was drunk and was out driving intoxicated, let alone he is a minot(3 month before turning 21, I think). All of the sudden he calls me up saying that he got pulled over. He ran 2 red lights, does not have an inspection and he STINKED of alcohol and could barely remember his name, this man was way pass being drunk, not to mention he has more then 25 points on his license. The cop LET HIM G, no tickets, no warning , NOTHING!!!! Don't get me wrong I am happy that he was just let go but I feel like if it was me I would be locked up quick. Can somebody explain me ( and him) why would a cop just let someone go without nothing??????? His excuse was that he was picking me up from the bar and didnt want ME to drive drunk and he is a marine and has all the goofy military decals on his car so ofcourse he has a military i.d. and the cop looked at his insurance (Usaa). I feel like that is the only "logical" reason why he got just let go but still, being drunk , run a few lights, and slurring your speech and he got NOTHING and was on his way in a few minutes. If someone could explain this to me???

HUH??? He didn't get ticketed the cop just let him go on the spot. He said he was followed for a while so the office ran his tags before he got pulled over. Also he said he wasn't pulled over by a crown victoria, he claimed it was an SUV.

I wasn't there, so I don't know.

I bet you most of the people who frequent this site weren't there also.

People serving in the military are usually well respected by cops so they will leave them alone for the most part. He's damn lucky this time though!

He probably got a more important call he needed to go to, rather than stand there and write a lengthy report on your idiot friend. And BTW- Cops don't let people go because they have military stickers or USAA insurance.

native, nice story. Can't believe you didn't add that your drunk friend was white and that the cop knew his daddy. Sounds like you took a few too many rides in the back seat of a cruiser.

You are one funny native. Which tribe do you call your own?

SE,

I know an ex-marine who got pulled over. Cop saw his sticker and started talking to him about his time in the service. He told my friend he was going 25 over, asked him to slow down, and let him go... that's evidence that at least some cops do respect the service stickers.

I doubt it has anything to do with him being military, especially not so close to the Pentagon and all the military bases. For some reason, a lot of the younger airmen/soldiers/etc seem to think that cops will kiss the ass of anyone in the service. I've spoken to many enlisted (e.g., not that long in service) who have had the adamant belief that by having an "Air Force" (or whatever) sticker on the back of their car, no cop would pull them over, and may even give them a little salute/thank you for your service.

Doing a good deed by orphaning a few kids on the way to picking your drunk ass up from a bar? Why didn't one of you do the good deed of CALLING A CAB?

It was actually a Federal Marshall that murdered that kid up in Rockville. He is serving a 15 year sentence for manslaughter.

I'm not doubting they don't respect stickers, especially in places like Stafford (close to Quantico) or close to Ft. Belvoir. Mostly all of Stafford county brownies are ex-military. Fairfax PD is a different breed, however. Same with PWC.

The sticker theory can also be related to thin blue line stickers. Originally they were made for officers so they were easily identifiable to other officers on the road. They were supposed to make an officer aware that there was a potential armed off duty officer in the car in case of a traffic stop. Nowadays look around, everyone has them and the officers now take them with a grain of salt.

I'm sticking with my theory on how the officer that night (in the 1st post) was just too lazy to book the guy and write a report. Especially if he pulled the guy over close to shift change.
