WASHINGTON - Prince William County, Va., police are searching for two stolen fuel tankers.

The tankers were stolen early Friday from the Gainesville area. Each truck is filled with 3,500 gallons of diesel fuel.

Each tanker truck is gray and has the words "S.W. Rodgers Company, Inc." on it. The tractors pulling the tankers are orange and white.

A bulletin sent to law enforcement agencies says the license plate numbers are TU-9227 and TW-47607.

Weird- the Arlington Alert network just sent out a message about a tanker truck fire down near Eisenhower Ave. I wonder if the stories are related?

Prince William County Fire confirms the burning tanker is not one of the stolen tankers.

Its a bit troubling to know that there are two loaded missing tankers on the loose :(

Unlike pertol, diesel is not readily flammable but is rather combustible when extreme pressure is exerted - resulting in self ignition. I would imagine the fire is oils and other combustible materials in the cab of the truck.

With that said, enough heat would cause an issue.

This happened about six months ago. Somebody stole a tanker truck from Baltimore and drove it up to the gates of a military installation (I think it was Andrews). Then they bailed, leaving the truck behind.

I do believe shit like this goes on and is never reported as terrorism, even though it is.

You would think they would have GPS on those trucks so they know where they are. If I owned a fleet of tanker trucks I would do that for sure.

IIRC, that idiot from Baltimore tried to sell the gas to some gas station in Southeast, and that's how he got caught. That was just some lowlife committing a crime of opportunity. I think the fact that people conspired to steal 2 trucks this time indicates there was some type of plan involved, which is cause for concern.

Diesel fuel and fertilizer makes a powerful explosive....just look what it did to the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City!

If there was simultaneous theft of a large amount of fertilizer from Southern States....I'd say look out!

But, the fuel probably stolen for it's value as fuel....not as an bomb ingredient.

As far as GPS in the trucks....S W Rodgers is a construction company, not a fuel dealer...the trucks probably just haul fuel for their heavy equipment.

How the hell do you get away with stealing TWO of these trucks? 3,500 gallons that's got take a while to pump out. Surprised this company doesn't have a security camera. How would a thief know BOTH trucks were full?

Both trucks were found, btw

Sounds like whoever stole them couldn't handle the pressure and just ditched them.
