I know alot of folks hate the guy, but I think having a former county chairman on the Hill can be a good thing for FFX county.

I cannot envision any scenario where Gerry Connolly would provide more than a fraction of the leadership delivered by Tom Davis. Davis not only represented Fairfax and Northern Virginia, he gave voice to Republicans like myself who are less concerned with strict ideologies. Not that Davis is perfect, but Connolly would quickly be exposed as an empty suit. I would favor Leslie Byrne over Gerry if forced to make a choice.

Tom Davis was a county chairman, and he did OK. I am not sure that is the best indicator though of success. Difference between the two though is that Connolly was a former hill staffer on the Foreign Affairs Committee and followed that up in the private sector with a stint handling trade and foreign economic policy. I wonder if he returns to the hill, would he would be more engaged in foreign affairs, or local issues? It will also be interesting to see what his stand on illegal immigration issues will be. As County chairman, he was able to pass the buck off and blame federal officials for the problem. A viewpoint not without a rational basis. However, once in the federal system, who can he blame and what can he change?

He was just re-elected, now he has larger aspirations?

With the amount of time and money this campaign will cost, perhaps he should resign?

He can't devote 100% to Fairfax County And 100% to his Congressional campaign at the same time.

Pick a sport Mr. Connelly.
