Best pizza in the area?
Posted by: Hungry ()
Date: November 16, 2011 09:55PM

So me and my family are looking for a good (hopefully the best in the fairfax area) pizzeria. We have been living in Italy for the past couple years, are new to this area, and would like to find as close to italian pizza as possible. We've tried all the dominos/pizza hut and so on, and all of them are too thick, greasy.. ect.

Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks

Tried ledo, hated it. Italian is normally made in a brick oven, its thinner normally also

In Fairfax I like Pierros Corner the best, it's a pretty thin crust cooked in a brick oven. I also think Whole Foods makes pretty decent pizzza, brick oven and it's 2 for 1 on Tuesdays.

Pizza preference appears to be closely linked to where you grew up. If you are from NY or Boston, you like a certain kind of pizza and when people recommend Ledo's to these folks, they get laughed at because there is no comparison. Similarly, Chicago people generally like a deep dish pizza so mention Z pizza to them is a joke.

I'm from Boston and miss the pizza from small pizza places generally run by Greek immigrants. I haven't found anything close around here though.

I guess I favor Bugsy's in Old town but it's still not quite as good as home.

Italian Store in Arlington (near 29 & 66) - best white pizza around - keep an eye out for the stoner dude who works there. If you want to see the long term impact of LSD.

Church Street Pizza in Vienna - nice small local joint with good pizza.

Avoid: Domino's - too many stories about delivery guys adding their own special sauce to the mix.

Try Pete's A-Pizza in Arlington/Clarendon. It's "New Haven" style thin crust pizza with lots of interesting toppings. They sell by the slice or a whole 18" pie. Monday is half-price pizza day. I also like Villa Bella in Burke (in the same shopping center as Walmart) for authentic brick-oven pizza.

KING'S BITE IN CHANTILLY! Hands down... Just for change I'll try one of the chains now ans then, but I always end up back there. They have yet to mess up a single one in the years I've been going there and it just seems more home-baked or something. Plus they're real generous with the toppings.

It certainly isn't Mario's near Velocity Five in Merrifield.

The pizza was disgusting. The dough was actually PATCHED together -- you could literally pull the pizza apart and the slices looked like a bunch of amoebas. I’ve never seen anything so ridiculous. And it tasted worse than it looked.

As bad, the the breaded chicken strips weren't even fully cooked, by which I mean fully re-fried or reheated because they were clearly frozen strips dumped into a deep fryer or microwave. They didn't bother to include any kind of dipping sauce, not the the family dog minded.

Assuming that they serve the same junk, how has the Mario's in Arlington stayed in business so long?

If you know of a decent pizza in the Falls Church / Loehman’s Plaza area, please tell me.

Try Paradiso Pizza on King St Old Town Alex. Across the street from Fishmarket.
Wood burning oven great pizza 100 + beers. Had a wonderfull veggie pizza there St Patrick's Day about 18.00. Not cheap but..

Pizza Bazano.. That place goes back 40 + years yes I can dig their pizza for ole times sake, The way we use to do it, with engineered straws placed in the pizza as drains for the grease.. But I wont knock it.. It was good in its own way in its day . try it. The pizza pans for size on the wall have been there 40+ years rectangle or round.

Primos In Belle Haven near the river has a great Greek pizza, thick crust.

Joes in Vienna on 123 has a great pizza buffet lunch 9 dollars thin and thick pizza, great salad bar
home made soup, baked chicken , pasta . they had several locations now down to a few. Great **** stars for Joes Lunch when I can afford it..

Place blows chunks. I wanted to like it so bad as it is so close. I have eaten there three times hoping it got its act together. Alas, it is permanently off my list of places to go. They don't even slice the pizza? WTF?

I ate there last night, my pizza was sliced. They cut it into 4ths, but it was sliced for sure

Sbarro's is yummy. The one at Fair Oaks is much better than the others in this mom and pop chain.

Good to hear. Hopefully they got the message. For the longest time slicing it was optional. Now if they could work on the taste they might be in business.

Hey Pizza guru/Sbarro rules/jimmy labarzzo...we get it, you work for Sbarro's at Fair Oaks. Go back to restaurant management 101 and understand that FFXU posting does not count as "Local Restaurant Marketing" you asswipe. Sbarro is not great pizza, and when the fuck does "Mom and Pop" mean over 1000 locations?

I've eaten this thin crust pizza for around 40 years and it is great.

Wrong! There was no such thing as thin crust pizza 40 years ago. Probably not even 20 years ago.
