Deshawn Derr Pleads Guilty To Robbing A Man at a Craigslist Meetup At Gunpoint
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA) -- A man pretending to sell iPhones on Craigslist, pleaded guilty to robbing the unsuspecting buyer at gunpoint, officials said.
Deshawn Derr, 25, of Alexandria, advertised he was selling $2,500 worth of iPhones on the popular trading and ad site.
"On June 17, 2011, Derr and a conspirator robbed a victim in Fairfax County at gunpoint. Court documents state that Derr approached the victim's car, opened the door, and while pointing a pistol at the victim stated, "You know how this is going to go." Derr then reached across the victim's body and took a bag containing approximately $2,500," officials said in a news release.
Derr's alleged co-conspirator, David Shawn Ramsey, 41, of Prince George's County, Maryland, was arrested on a criminal complaint charging him conspiracy to commit robbery, officials said.
"Derr was an active duty Air Force Staff Sergeant at the time of the offenses. He was assigned to Andrews Air Force Base as a military police officer," officials said.
Derr faces a mandatory minimum penalty of seven years in prison and a maximum of life in prison.

Actually, that article is a bit wrong, too. In the Air Force, the career title is Security Police. Also, as a sub-unit of the Security Police, they have the Law Enforcement, who patrol the base and protect the assets on the base. The Security Police who are not law enforcement, protect the aircraft or missile assets of the Air Force.

I personally know this man. He is actually a wonderful human being. He served his country for 7 years, doing 3 tours to Iraq. The news doesnt tell you that he has PTSD or that he has a TBI (for those of you that dont know what that is, it is Tramautic Brain Injury). He received a brain injury in 2010 when he, the driver of a military vehicle flipped over due to his quick thinking to avoid an IED. Although the accident resulted in him receiving a brain injury, he saved his 12 men by avoiding the IED. The military deemed him okay to return to work and avoided treating him for his PTSD. His career was nothing less than honorable and he received many awards for his heroism. DeShawn was and always be a friend to me. I hate that the military did not help him when he asked for it, and let his PTSD finally get the bet of him.
And for his wife, she is a highly educated and sophisticated lady who at this point is doing nothing less than amazing at keeping their family together.
