I heard about this project a few years ago, and it looks like the idea may finally come to fruition. Some properties recently changed hands in downtown McLean, making it possible to re-design some of the streets with a focus on a more pedestrian-friendly downtown area. McLean's already a bit more walkable than alot of FFX county, and this sounds like it will improve it without having to construct some sort of mutant strip-mall (aka "town center") like they've done elsewhere.
The planning document is kinds hard to read, but it looks like they will take that street by McLean Pizza, and turn it into a strip with wide sidewalks. They'll also close down that part of Redmond Dr. next to the Old Firehouse, and build a pedestrian-friendly street adjacent to the shopping center where Kazan Restaurant is. It also says something about a "roundabout" at the intersection of Chain Bridge and Old Dominion, not sure if that means 'traffic circle' though.
Sound like a pretty good project for the neighborhood. Hopefully it will attract some cool new restaurants and stores. A bar with an outdoor patio would be nice too :)
