Sharing COX internet using router
Posted by: Kiev ()

so I just got cox internet, and here is where I am hitting a brick wall:

I want to share my cox connectiona via netgear wireless router.

Laptop sees the router, connects to it, excellent signal, but no internet.

Is it true that COX only allows approved MAC addresses to access the web?

Basicly they block any routers, etc from the network?

anyone?

No, it is not true. Have you logged into the router?

No. That's how I'm connected right now.

Same here. I am connected to Cox, via router, on my laptop PC.

Is your router connecting to the cable?

router is connected to the cable MODEM.

DNS should be auto-detected.

I'm using Cox with a cable modem and wireless router.

Do you have NAT enabled on the router?

Cox is down with you ripping them off. Acutally they are, my neighbor was stealing cable from me for a while and when a dude came to fix mine i pointed it out and the guy was like its supposed to be like that.

Solution is to learn to speak indian then call up netgear in India and they will tell you how to fix it. If you can understand them, they will actually be helpful. However hard it is to understand them, they will figure it out after 2 or so hours.

it may cause your brain to explode but here goes anyway.
  1. launch the Network Settings manager
  2. set your wireless device to DHCP under "properties" and specify the router's name
  3. use the network manager applet to add/switch wireless networks

Gravis, you need to understand that most people think Linux is a dangerous command-line only trap... that only the top admins can utilize.

When windows meets its downfall after too many switch to Vista and crash, Linux will start costing money and everyone who didnt already get it will feel retarded.

its probably gonna be MacOS before Linux, but who cares.
Corporate world stays with MS products.

that's not a caption, it's a file name and here's the file. ^_^

file.php?2,file=2174

yeah, i like the "lol cats" and some other pictures. a couple of them are videos. linux desktops do a lot better job of telling you what's in a file than windows.
