The Philly Cheese Steak Challenge
Posted by: It's Always Sunny ()
Date: November 02, 2011 06:15PM

Just wondering if anyone has ever pulled off the Philly Cheese Steak Challenge. For those not familiar, the official urbandictionary definition:

A competition by mainly high school students in the Washington D.C. area. The challenge is to leave your school in the beginning of the school day, drive to Philadelphia, buy a philly cheesesteak, and make it back to your high school by the time school ends. You then must present the philly cheesesteak as proof that you successfully completed the challenge and a photo of yourself in Philadelphia buying the cheesesteak as well.

That's what the Maryland House is for on I-95. And, damn, Maryland just jacked their tunnels and bridge fees on November 1st. $3.00 to go through the Baltimore tunnel and $6.00 to cross the Susquehana bridge before Delaware. The trip could be a costly one. I'd suggest that if many students are interested, they should borrow their mother's mini van and pack 8 people in there to make the trip.

Either or would be fine - since they're just across the street from each other. Geno's founder just died, though.

There isn't really a good reason, but it's just a fun thing to do with your friends senior year, usually in the spring. Doing stupid shit is what the end of senior year is all about.

If you're lookin for stupid shit to do, when you get to Geno's, try to order in Spanish. Then tell them you want "a steak and cheese with mayo, lettuce, and tomato". Then tell them you want Swiss cheese on it.

That really is a retarded Senior Skip Day. There are few things that suck more than driving to Philadelphia...except for actually being IN Philadelphia.

We did the fun day get "Stoned and Chill Out Challenge."

The challenge is to leave your school in the beginning of the school day, drive to a near by park, woods or house. Get out some alcohol or weed and chill out. Make it back to your high school by the time school ends. You don't have to present proof that you successfully completed the challenge and no photo of yourself is needed.

My fastest time up is 2:17 ....

the key is that you get off 95 before downtown Philly on South Broad St. it cuts at least an hour off the time. Also take the 495 bypass in Maryland. I don't know why but it is always faster.

Geno's is the place to go except on Blue Thursdays. On Thursdays Geno's donates the funds from every cheese steak to a fallen police officer. From 12:01 AM to 12:00 PM,and the line of Cops goes around two blocks. They all are ordering at least five steaks for the team, and they come from all over.
You have to order them plain wit cheese only, because the condiments get all screwed up on the way back.

My best time back is 1:45.

Tolls round trip cost about $20.00 and you can fill up at the Maryland house on the way back. Cops hang out right before the rest stop so if your slowing down to enter your good to go. Easy access to the gas pumps, and a long on ramp that leads to a bridge. That way as you speed back up and merge onto 95 you can see ahead to spot cops.

I did the cheesesteak challenge weekend before last when I took my older boy up to Philadelphia for a weekend outing. We ate at both Genos and Pats. Pats won over Genos - BUT

the best steak that we had was not even in Philadelphia.

Instead it was at a place called "Pats" in Drexel Hill. Meat was tender. Good bread. Put Famous Pat's to shame.

To anyone who thinks it counts if you go to Geno's, suck a dick. Pat's is that OG shit, the ONLY philly cheese steak.

And I haven't personally done the challenge, but 2 of my friends did senior year. They brought back 1 extra for one of our teachers as part of an agreement that he would cover for them. Sort of a legend at the school now.

Don't know why anyone would drive to philly for one of their overrated lame assed sandwiches. Fuckers don't put fried onions, lettuce or tomato on that sorry little sandwich. Just grisly ass meat and funky processed cheese. The best cheese steak in the nation can be found here in NOVA at Anthony's Restaurant, conveniently located in Falls fucking Church. That bitch sports a toasted bun piled high with sliced rib eye, lettuce, tomato, fried onions, and loads of provalone cheese. And did I mention they give potato chips on the side?

A cheaper easier version would be to head to tippy's taco on backlick and try to make it to your car. No need to spend 4 hours and $20 in tolls to get your ass gurgling.

Way back when I was young and stupid, a buddy suggested we drive for a pizza. Six hours away. "Best pizza I've ever had", he swore. So we did.

When we got there, it had gone out of business long before. So we wound up at a Pizza Hut.

This was almost 40 years ago, but yep, dumb dumb dumb! And not ashamed to admit it. But we did have fun.

40 years ago Pizza Hut was worth a drive. Today.... not so much. The days of pizza places with arcade games and pitchers or cold beer.... Mom and Dad would have a few brews and the kids would entertain themselves for an hour or so on a couple of dollars of quarters playing games.

Philly Cheese Steak Challenge is not an Urban Myth.

A bit trickier to do it today because they take attendance in all classes AND the High Schools start later so it puts you in more traffic and the fact that there is just MORE traffic these days it really sucks.

You need to call yourself in as Absent/Out Sick.

My son did this last year, pulled into the parking lot, waited for the first bell to ring, waited about 10 minutes and then pulled out and headed to Philly.

With Waze and Google Maps it makes it a bit easier to find your way and deal with traffic.

My son was such a draw inside the lines kind of kid, I was actually proud he did the Challenge. Matter of fact he even brought mom and dad back some Cheese Steaks, put them in a cooler to keep them warm.

What am I supposed to do when the kid shows up with Cheese Steaks for dinner from Philly.

He had heard about it and want to check it off the list and he got it done.

Rolled in a white painters tarp like a burrito, rolling across the beltway back and forth at rush hour

That sounds about as stupid and totally deadly dangerous as this Philly Steak dopey game, really who cares about such lame stuff when libs may make weed lawful so the only thing you will need to do is collect welfare and munch out on junk food. ? Hell then you can just forget about even living, just exist in a haze of weed smoke. just as long as you don't forget to vote for a Democrat
