An internal investigation by the Office of the Chief Technology Officer revealed 20,000 hits from pornographic Web sites on the nine fired employees' computers in 2007.

The 32 suspended employees accessed pornographic Web sites 2,000 times in 2007, the investigation found.

Of the fired employees' estimated 200 work days a year, the investigation showed that they visited pornographic Web sites 100 times per day, Mayor Adrian Fenty says.

The initial investigation only tackled the 10,000 District computers monitored by WebSense, a porn-tracking and filtering software. Chief Technology Officer Vivek Kundra said the city will purchase another 20,000 WebSense licenses at a cost of $142,000.

Sounds like a waste of money to me.

actually, that's isnt much money. it's only $6.76 per computer. considering the amount of money they pay for each license for every Microsoft product they use, it's nothing. so for $6.76, they will be ahead if they get only 20 minutes of work per computer.

if we switched all the computers to free operating systems and software, we would save BILLIONS of dollars.

so... where do our tax dollars go? they go to microsoft.

accidentally divided by 21000.

oh yeah... and they keep buying new computers because windows gets beefier and beefier. they are up to like 3.4GHz machines linux desktops run great on 700MHz machines. just to add insult to injury, they buy all their computers pre-assembled and loaded for a huge overhead from companies like Dell. school computers == LOTS and LOTS of wasted money.
