WASHINGTON (AP) - NORAD is planning an exercise this week in the Washington region to enhance its skills and test a warning system.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command will conduct exercise Falcon Virgo 12-01 Wednesday morning.
The exercise is designed to hone NORAD's intercept and identification operations and test the region's visual warning system. Civil Air Patrol aircraft, Air Force F-16s and a U.S. Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter will participate in the exercise. These flights will take place between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m.
A civilian Beechcraft King Air aircraft will also fly patterns about 1,000 feet above ground level between 12:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. to help calibrate systems and equipment.

Tonight there have been many helicoptrts or airplanes circling around fairfax, virginia. Does anyone know why this is?

Yes, we saw 2 flying around for a while in the Fairfax area.
Thought they might be police helicopters based on the lights.

Yes, Jacob the police have indeed increased the helicopter activity at night. It seems there was a local contractor who was hiring illegals and then killing them when the job was completed in order to avoid paying them. Some of the bodies have been found but FCPD is also using necro-imaging equipment mounted on their helicopters in order to detect the gases of decomposing bodies. Fortunately, the contractor did not bury any bodies near cemeteries so, several image returns were able to be isolated in order that evidence could be collected at the victims' families notified.

Yep they were all over mclean and vienna too, 9-11ish. I bet thats a great way to spend public funds, flying a bunch of obnixiously loud fairfax county police helicopters in giant circles for no apparent reason. Daybreakers, man. They're vampires. They would steal your wallet and put a bullet in you if they had half a chance.
