Trickie might be interested. As long as the books aren't too erudite and they are geared more to women. I hate stuff about rockets and Tom Clancy kinda stuff. Right now I am reading John Grisham's An Innocent Man and I also love Jodi Picoult books.
Well you may not want me in your book club since the last thing I got excited about was last Sunday's Bring it On marathon on Family Channel. I adore those teen movies.

Meeper that was funny!!!!!

I took a long walk today through the woods which surround my house and this poem by Longfellow came to mind:

When winter winds are piercing chill,
And through the hawthorn blows the gale,
With solemn feet I tread the hill,
That overbrows the lonely vale,

O'er the bare upland, and away
Through the long reach of desert woods,
The embracing sunbeams chastely play,
And gladden these deep solitudes.

Trickie,

I love Grisham novels. The only one I didn't like was The Street Lawyer. I haven't read, An Innocent Man. Is it good? I just started, The Last Time They Met, by Anita Shreve. (author of, The Pilot's Wife) No opinion yet.

I read, Plain Truth, by Jodi Picoult and loved it. It was one of those books, where you get so involved with the characters and the setting, that you feel a certain sense of sadness, almost a loss, when the book ends.

I don't care if you are a troll as long as you are nice to me. Every Jodi Picoult book I ever read has kept me spellbound. I love them all. I just got an Anita Shreve book called Light on Snow.
The Grisham book is about a man who has been charged with murder but he is annocent. I also got the new Grisham book for Christmas called Playing For Pizza but I haven't started it yet. I like to balance out my serious reading with non serious stuff so I am also reading Bikini Boot Camp on how to lose weight and eat healthy. I love it so much I am saving my money to go to the real bikini boot camp in Mexico about an hour south of Cancun. All you do there is go for hikes with guides, take yoga, do core exercises and learn to cook healthy foods. I hope I can get some tan time in.

Originally, I posted here as “Happy Housewife”. Just having some fun...kind of a way to make fun of ourselves. The husband thought it was funny to add his book suggestion.

I enjoy listening to audio books since I drive a lot. So, if you all suggest a book that’s available on CD, count me in.

Here’s something I recently discovered. You can access the Fairfax County Library system using your library card and download an audio version of a book onto your computer. It remains active for three weeks and then deletes itself. You first have to download a small program from the library to enable playback of the book.

So far it looks like we have Trickie, Genevieve, Margie, Audio and me. Oh, and a few others if we find a book in the erotica section. Does Barns & Noble even have such a section? I'll check it out.... wearing a disguise.

Trickie, I read, Light on Snow. At first, when you mentioned it, I couldn't remember. I rummaged through my book shelves, a mess, found it and after re-reading the first few pages, it came back to me. I also read, A Wedding In December. Another good one by Shreve.

I thought it was nice of Ferfux to suggest one of his mother's favorite books, so after I finish the book I just started, I will read that one.

Well, back to my book and one of my cats, now 16, who loves to curl up with me when I'm reading. It's so relaxing.

OMG! Booklover, you sorta sound like me. I have two 16 year old cats who always sit near me when I read. One is a himilayan and one is an orange tabby.
Oh and yes they have those erotica books. I saw a section at Borders but I ran away from it cause I figured I might see a prevert or something. They also had a section called Manga which is like cartoons and must be popular. I never heard of it.
Any book you guys want to read is okay with me but popular fiction is my fave. Anything too intellectual and I will be bored.

Radiophile,

Although, I don't know much about this book, I would think socialists would have it well stocked.

I do know that Michael Moore cited Unger's first book as one of most important sources for Fahrenheit 9/11. Doesn't this second book promote Unger's theory that Bush and Christians are attempting to take over the Middle East?

Trickie,

My 16 yr old cat is showing significant signs of old age. She can't eat dry food and I have to feed her very, very soft food around 6 times a day... tiny portions, or she gets sick. Plus, her nails are growing long, aren't retracting and get stuck in blankets, etc. If I'm away from her for too long, she starts crying, it's almost a wailing. My husband thinks she gets disoriented and needs me to feel safe. Are you noticing any of this with your cats?

Damn socialist library!

Yes Moore cited Unger's book for F-911. Actually House bof Saud, House of Bush was the main source for the movie.

Like the movie, HOS,HOB opens with the 17 planes that were flying after 911 happened. This "fact" had the conservative talk radio, thanks to the talking points memo issued by Karl Rove's office to radio hosts, going bonkers. "Factually innacurrate" was term they were told you use, and they did. The gang of right wingers on the radio went on and on about "factually inaccurate" because they said there were no planes, when in fact the 911 commission, at that time, said there were 17 planes.

When the 911 commission came out with the final report, they revised their "fact" to 19 planes. this gave the talk show proof that the movie and book were factually inaccurate because both cited 17 planes as a fact. Which is closer - 17 to 19 or 19 to 0? I believe in the Price is Right method - who ever is closer to the actual retail without going over wins.

While I am only in the first 100 pages, Craig Unger does not make any accusations regarding the relationship between the Evangelicals and the current administration. He does introduce key players - some household names, many not, and cites events and well documented interviews to let the reader choose to see if there is a co-relation.

Unlike Coulter, Unger does not draw conclusions. He just presents facts and the events that happened afterwards. For instance, one of Hillary's college roommates many years later divorced her husband and starting practicing a lesbian lifestyle. This in and of itself is enough to have Ms. Coulter claim that Hillary had a lesbian affair with her roommate in college. This, despite the fact the roommate said over and over that it did not happen, and she only was interested in men at that point and did not realize she was a lesbian till 10 plus years after she left college and was married with children. But Coulter presented the accusation as "fact" anyway.

And regarding your question that Unger is supporting his theory that Bush and the Christians are planning on taking over the middle east, I suggest you read the book and draw your own conclusions. I have read all of Coulter's books and find many of her accusations, in reality, baseless and stretching. Unger's other book was well researched, included well documented quotes actually taken from the people involved, and not a lot of hearsay.

Yes Book lover, my elderly cats have also wailed when I go away from them. They get disoriented. They are much like very elderly people in a nursing home. We had one cat named Trickie!!!!! who lived to be 21. My vet suggested Prozac for him but we refused the give him the meds. If we put him in the basement two floors below our bedroom, he would actually find a vent and stand under that and cry for us! Now that he has been gone for several years, I miss him terribly. You just have to be patient with elderly pets. They only want to be comfortable and loved by the people they adore.

Radiophile, that book seems too boring for me. Can we choose a non political one. How about Water For Elephants. But let's let Genevieve decide. Maybe reston Peace can be our discussion leader!!!

It's a fairly short book and worth reading. I seriously can't put his stuff down sometimes when I'm reading it. The movie probably will suck anyway, I thought the Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas movie was awful- like it totally missed the point of the book.

Can we discuss "Romance Novels?" My favorite by Margaret Mitchell

"In Atlanta, Scarlett quickly inserts herself into the hustle and bustle of the city. Melanie treats Scarlett like a sister and is blind to Scarlett's contempt and jealousy. At a charity ball, they encounter Rhett Butler. He has a scandalous reputation and creates more outrage that is social by asking Scarlett to dance, despite her mourning, an invitation that Scarlett happily accepts."

It is obvious that Scarlett and Melanie were once lovers and she is jealous of Rhett for stealing her girlfriend. If Melanie doesn't want to do a thressome then I think Melanie should of just moved on.
