http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/police/news-releases/2011/102411ofcrcrashdwiarrest.htm

West Springfield Police District – An off-duty, Fairfax County police officer was involved in a single vehicle crash on Zion Drive on Monday, October 24 shortly after 3 a.m. The officer was the sole occupant of his personal vehicle when it struck a utility pole near the intersection of Grovewood Way. The officer was not injured.

PFC Sean McGlone, 41, was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

He has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

Did they arrest the officer and hold him overnight in jail? I think a DUI and being a cop should mean you lose your job on the spot.

In Fairfax County, getting a DUI means you get promoted

Only if that were the case. There was a study a few years ago (when Tony G) was contemplating cutting all sorts of County services....I'll have to dig for it... that stated that something live 60% of the Fairfax County's Public Safety work force live outside of the county with Culpeper and Haymarket being their residences.

I see your thought and think it may on target with today's atmosphere. I do believe that more of the Public Safety force should be citizens of the county.
(If you live here, you would actually care about the community)
Once again this does come down to the voice of the county citizens. No one speaks up in terms of voting for bonds, projects, etc. So there is the belief that the majority of the citizens of the county are cool with the way business is done around here. I mean the county is fully functional, however, there are still some things that can use review.

We shouldn't forget that at the very top of the organizational chart are the citizens. There appears to be a disconnect on that little stem between the citizens and the Board of Supervisors.

Why, because the community actually cares about the cops?

Most cops I know couldn't afford to live in the county, unless they are captains making six figures.....but how many captains do you see on partrol pulling people over?

POLICE OFFICER I

Police Department

$48,036 to $55,610 (O17-2) <---not including fringe benefits, etc.

https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/jobs/listing/detail.asp?job=11-9550

I digress. How about living within your means! Right now I make within that range and live in a house, have a small family (wife, kids. pets), with nice cars, a spouse that works, and live nicely. I do not engage in any illegal activity, live honestly (gotta do so for my periodic reinvestigation).

All I live in a pretty nice area, safe enough for me to want to raise my kids.

How about people cut stupid crap out of there lives...like trips to aruba, or cancun to drink tequila, eliminate cruises, second 'vacation' homes, etc.

Trust me, I support LEOs...and am an active supporter of all things public safety related. But something there in your statement sounds wrong.

If you wanna talk about screwed up incomes why is it that a cop bitches about making over $50,000 a year and is rarely placed in life or death situations in Fairfax County? Yet an E1 private in the military faces the possibility of death on a daily basis, gets deployed to shit holes like Afghanistan, and makes less than $20,000 a year? I have nothing against law enforcement but honestly stop bitching about the already high amounts of money you guys make for almost doing absolutely nothing in the county except for writing tickets and a few arrests. So now talk about being underpaid and living within your means.

Cops incomes are absolutely ridiculous. I agree with the previous poster, try living within your means. $55,000 a year is not bad for entry level considering most jobs requiring degrees start out at $33,000 a year on average, unless you have a degree in demand like IT related. I support LE, like it or not we still have to rely on them for certain things. When they start bitching about how they don't get paid enough, can't live in the county, or are hypocrites and break the law I can't help but feel nauseous. As another poster pointed out try getting deployed to Afghanistan as an E1 and make under $20,000 a year, get shot at on a daily basis, lose your friends, and possibly come home just to get harassed by FCPD and hear them bitch about not having enough money for such a "hazardous," job.

shut the fuck you dirty cop get off this thread. They get paid way to much for what they do and what they are actually qualified for. Try going to college and studying for a real degree only to get paid half the amount you should be when there are stupid people with no brains patrolling are streets trying to get back at the world.

But it is all about choices....they choose their profession, no one forced them into it. So with that you have to accept the responsibility and expectations of your stated income. This is a no-brainier. This area isn't Compton or nearly as bad as NYC.

Lets see, I don't get paid shift differential, hazard pay, OT, and even better...I pay into social security...so that means less money for me bi-weekly. And I am not complaining about my quality of life. I am doing just dandy!

People have their priorities all mixed up around here, and that is obvious, otherwise this thread wouldn't be here.

Had the drunk not slammed into a pole we would never have heard about this "incident".

If he was pulled over, I'm sure the cops would have swept it under the rug, and given the guy a ride home.

Professional Courtesy? No. "Professional Standards" are against this. Moreover, I once was told a story about a retire higher up in the Fire Dept. who on his retirement date/party fell asleep at the wheel (I believe Arl Co.) Drunk as a Skunk! Being that he was pulled over by neighboring jurisdictions police, they basically told him, OK we got you covered, but be out of here in 30 minutes when I'll be doing my round trip...and that's they it was done for him.

This story may be hearsay, but for some reason, I don't doubt it.

I will not defend this officer or his actions. It would appear there was a bad lack in judgement. However, like all of you out there, he will go to court and a judge will decide the outcome. As for officers, just remember, there was an officer who had to step up and arrest his fellow brother. He could have turned a blind eye and done nothing or minimal, or the officer could have made an arrest; just like any other. As for living in the county, I'm sure officer's in the county would love to live in the county. There as so many nice affordable shithole places off of RT 1, Springfield, RT 7 area, etc. Oh yeah, I'd want to live with that trash. OR...I could live outside the county and not live next to the guy I arrested last night and actually enjoy life and not live with the typical stuck up county residents !

All right I'm trying to figure something out. Cop gets drunk, drives a car into a pole, gets taken to jail, court date later.

What are people bitching about exactly? Isn't that the routine with any other drunk driver? I realize everyone wants him fired, but how about he gets a chance, like anyone else, to defend the allegation in court? I mean it's not like they let him go home and skip jail. Calm down people.

A kudos for the officer who arrested him. That must have been a hard decision, but it was the right one. While professional courtesy, such as an officer off duty from his 12 hour shift driving a bit over the speed limit getting a free pass, this goes far beyond that. Drunk driving is up the ladder a lot from that, with regards to seriousness, impaired versus a bit of speed. True, neither is good, but this officer should be commended, not hated for what he or she did. It was the right thing to do, and not only protected the public, but perhaps the officer himself even more, or from future events.

Now its up to a judge to decide his fate. Innocent until proven guilty, but if found guilty, its time for him to get canned. And if that is the case, I'm sure that will be how it bounces.

Bullshit! most apartments knock off %10 or more from the rent provided the cop parks his car in the community. It's because they can't live within their means or bought too much shit they can't afford and then bitch to the county that they don't get paid enough. I think all cops should be paid $33,000 a year entry level, then maybe the country could save a little more $$$

Before you judge as to whether or not the salary is too low for cops....you should consider how much overtime they make on top of this base salary. Some of them make half of their base salary again in overtime which puts them in a whole different category. How about a report on the amount of overtime paid out to officers in Fairfax County to see their true annual income.

Agreed, these guys get paid way too much for a position that should only be $33,000 a year. Military doesn't get paid overtime for shit and look up pay scale for your average recruit E-1 to E-4 entering active duty. Before everyone starts telling me how it is a volunteer position, I don't give a shit any position where you can get blown up in a split second or shot at on a daily basis by Mr. IhateAmericans should pay more than writing tickets and stomping all over your constitutional rights and civil liberties. Fairfax has lost 2 cops in how many years? Last weekend 6 troops were killed in Kabul? You tell me which position is more dangerous and worth $50+ thousand a year.

Dont compair cops to the military please. I served and woiuldn't change that for anything. I was a 18 yo kid out of highschool they feed/house/trained me for 20k and yes I got to see other counties on their dime. That doesn't compaire to the cops in ffx.

County has a low crime rate, thank a cop. They work over time any hourly job that lets someone work overtime and people jump at it. How bout we all agree to disagree on their pay scale. Can't really compair it to the military.

As for the DWI. I am happy to hear that not only did they hook him up but they let the public know as well. I am sure that the arresting officer will go to court other wise it will be published in the paper that he didn't. Bet he has a union lawer that will get it knocked down to a reckless driving like any other drunk that is arrested in ffx.

So "Guy" most people who end up in an alcohol related accident have a drinking problem. The odds finally catch up to them. If you are a friend why don't you help him get help or you really are no friend at all.
