House has a ghost - what to do?
Posted by: Haunted ()
Date: October 23, 2011 11:02AM

Serious question. I own a home constructed in 2001. Previously the land had a garage belonging to another home. The land was sold off and a developer built the home for some Asian people. They owned the home for one year and then sold it to me in 2002. Since then, there have been lots of unexplained knocking sounds which occur in a pattern of threes. Three knocks...pause..three knocks. This pattern also comes through the cell phone signal when making a call from certain rooms. My sister has a friend who is psychic and she refuses to enter the home. We also have a photograph taken in the house and it seems to show some kind of figure lying on the sofa - difficult to make out. I wonder if someone died a long time ago on the land and is haunting the location. This is really the first house to sit on the land. Any ideas on how to get rid of the ghost?

Only someone steeped in evil can handle your ghost.

Catherine "Poison Apple" Lorenze might be able to help.

Woodburn Hospital is able to contend with such issues. Perhaps a check in there, or maybe at the Lamb Center, could provide some assistance for this. Recently on that other thread, there have been postings both on psychosis and delusional disorders. These might be good reading, prior to your visits to either of these businesses. Best of luck

Yes, just follow the steps below. Also can you scan the picture and post it here?

How to Get a Ghost out of Your House
http://www.wikihow.com/Get-a-Ghost-out-of-Your-House

1. Get rid of negative energy using sage. One way the Native Americans used is a Sage ceremony. It was used to get rid of negative energies in the shelter. To do this, get two packs of sage, burn it, and spread the smoke throughout the house. Say something along the lines of "We mean you no harm, please leave this place in peace." You do not necessarily have to say that, but it has been known to work. However, this method has a few unfortunate downs. See Warnings.

2. This is a messy way, but spread salt on the windowsills (as salt represents a sort of positive energy).

3. Cleanse your home. This way is helpful, as you will "kill two birds with one stone". However, this method requires much preparation. To do this, wash everything in your house. All sheets, curtains, everything. Vacuum/hoover the floors and give the house a really thorough cleaning.

4. Contact your local priest/exorcist. The priest will bless the house, hopefully at the least, making things better. If they don't, turn to the exorcist, who will be able to remove the ghosts.

5. Go through all the rooms in the house, with a small bell, ringing it quietly in each corner.

6. Another way is to get a buddy, go through the house holding hands and saying in a firm voice "This is the house for the living, not the dead. You are dead, so we wish you well to seek the light and move on where you ought to be." Be aware that things could get kind of freaky in a matter of seconds, as ghosts often don't realize that they are dead, so reminding it that fact will cause some surprise (wouldn't you be surprised if someone told you that you were dead?)

7. One other way is to ask the ghost questions, such as "Are you happy that we have moved into this home" and have some kind of code, like one knock on a door is Yes and two is No. This is meant to be handled by experts, though. Ghosts can sense when one is scared, or nervous easily, and can often take advantage of this fact as soon as they realize it. If the answers to your questions are negative, it may be time to look for a new house.

8. Set out some things that the ghost may have left behind during its time on Earth. If the ghost had a diary, set the diary out and the list goes on.

9. Prayer. Pray on your life that the ghost will go. This is often like blessing the house, and has had results.

10. Sprinkle holy water (if you are Christian) throughout the house, as this is also like blessing the house, and has also had results.

11. Using Garlic can help as well, putting garlic in the room, or wearing it around your neck

***The sage method and prayer are the best for getting rid of a spirit. If the spirit is evil or demonic you'll definitely need to contact a church. (Catholic).

It's best to get an experts opinion in these matters. I know of two people who could help you out.

The first is Otta Mae Brown. She should be able to talk to the ghost and find out what the problem is.

The second is Dr. Peter Venkman. He's more like an exterminator.

I like the idea of using sage as I think this is the ghost of a native American who lived in the area hundreds of years ago. There were some battles with the English settlers in the area, so maybe it was related to that time period.

Ghostbusters...
If there's somethin' strange in your neighborhood
Who ya gonna call (ghostbusters)
If it's somethin' weird an it won't look good
Who ya gonna call (ghostbusters)

I ain't afraid a no ghost
I ain't afraid a no ghost
If you're seein' things runnin' thru your head
Who can you call (ghostbusters)
An' invisible man sleepin' in your bed
Oh who ya gonna call (ghostbusters)
I ain't afraid a no ghost
I ain't afraid a no ghost
Who ya gonna call (ghostbusters)
If you're all alone pick up the phone
An call (ghostbusters)
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/g/ghostbusters/ghostbusters_theme_song.html ]
I ain't afraid a no ghost
I hear it likes the girls
I ain't afraid a no ghost
Who you gonna call (ghostbusters)
Mm... if you've had a dose
Of a freaky ghost baby
You better call ghostbusters
Bustin' makes me feel good
I ain't afraid a no ghosts

Don't get caught alone oh no... ghostbuster
When he comes through your door
Unless you've just got some more
I think you better call ghostbusters
Ooh... who you gonna call (ghostbusters)
Who you gonna call (ghostbusters)
Ah, I think you better call (ghostbusters)

I can't hear you... (ghostbusters)
Who you gonna call (ghostbusters)
Louder ghostbusters
Who you gonna call (ghostbusters)
Who you can call ghostbusters... (till fade)

Depends. Some ghosts are good and bad. IF YOU SEE ONE, STARE then walk away. IF you speak, the ghost will disappear. IF you experience physical contact such as: 1- touching of your hair, 2 - whispers, they want something from you. Most of the time, it is positive. If it is a negative, angry and aggressive ghost, get professional help from GHOST HUNTERS. Respect the dead. Generally speaking, they'll leave you alone. However, IF the dead don't leave you alone...well,well...contact a Priest of the Catholic faith and they will bless your house.

IF curious on this subject, check out books at your local library store at no cost. Does hurt to read up on GHOST HAUNTINGS in your local area. Fascinating of what one discovers...

Be careful.

I definitely believe in that stuff, and I guarantee that just about everyone you know has at one point in time experienced something paranormal in their lives (I'm not just talking about hauntings, but in general terms about unexplainable events). There's a lot we don't know about this world, that is for sure.

How to Talk to a Ghost in Your House
By Blake Flannery
http://blakeflannery.hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Talk-to-a-Ghost-in-Your-House

Communication With A Ghost
Disclaimer: If at any time you are reading this and believe that I am describing a ghost that you know personally, rest in peace I am not. All ghost references are purely fictitious.

So you have a ghost in your house and you have found this hub to explain how to talk to it. There are many reasons you may want to communicate with a ghost that lives in your house.

Maybe you are tired of being the SOUL provider of the household. Maybe you want it to stop wasting electricity when it turns on lights and leaves the room. Maybe it’s getting a little old to still be living at home with you. For whatever reason, you need tips to communicate with your cohabiting ghost. Here are some pointers to keep in mind:

Timing:

Ghosts can be really tough to talk to because of scheduling issues. Most ghosts have to work the graveyard shift. You may only see each other real late at night when you’re both too tired to talk. The scene usually plays out like this: You get up in the middle of the night to pee and look in the mirror as you wash your hands. You see each other, but you are both stunned speechless. This is not a good time to talk. If you are both tired you will not get anywhere. In this case choose a better time to approach your ghost.

And don’t do it right when you’ve caught your ghost doing something that makes you angry. You may say things you don’t really mean and your ghost may reciprocate with more escalation.

Stay Assertive:

Some ghosts, such as Casper, may be friendly and easy to talk to. Your ghost may be different. In this case you will need to exorcise assertive communication. Whether your ghost is aggressive, passive-aggressive, passive, or just passed away, assertiveness will help you keep the interaction active, cooperative, and goal oriented.

Is this a ghost or just a glare?

Long before cell phone use, ghosts frequently used these. Some are still holding thier breath for a better technology. Tips for Commmunicating with a Ghost:
Communicate confidence with your body language.
Don’t let your ghost spook you. Most ghosts aren't trying to be monsters.
Hold your head up.
Point your shoulders toward your ghost.
Keep good eye contact.
Remember to actively listen.
Use “I” statements in order to avoid arguments. For example, “I want to conserve electricity and would appreciate if you turn the lights off when you leave a room.” This works much better than, “you pale son of a witch, you’re always leaving the lights on when no BODY is even in the room.”
Use a formula that starts with empathy and asks for a response. For example, "I am concerned and need to talk to you, I realize you have a busy schedule and work the graveyard shift, when is a good time to talk?"

Ghosts prefer to use whitening mouthwash. Nothing's more embarrassing than yellow teeth for a ghost. You can't make the ghost do anything:
In order to keep your sanity, keep in mind that most ghosts are free spirits. If you attempt assertive communication with your ghost and all he keeps saying is “boo,” remember that you cannot change him. He must be willing to change. Your ghost may not even be willing to take form, which makes communication especially difficult. If your ghost won’t talk, you can’t make him.

Finally, if your ghost is abusive set boundaries and get help from a FIEND you trust. No one should put up with a ghost that HOVERS over everything you do or attempts to control you by threatening you or scaring you. No one is a fan of a ghost that says boo too often, so just say boo to booers.

Hopefully the tips I have provided will help you communicate with the ghost that lives in your house.

Ghosts prefer to use whitening mouthwash. Nothing's more embarrassing than yellow teeth for a ghost.

Nothing new to report on the ghost. Has been quiet lately. Hear it more in the winter than in the warm weather - probably because the windows are closed and we are inside more often. First thought it was water pipes or heating system, but it happens when everything else is quiet. Plus static in cell phones is weird.

For it to work, you have to walk every corner of the house and your property while saying something like "We mean you no harm, please leave this place in peace." The key thing to remember is doing not only the house (everywhere in the house including the attic) but also the property line. If you've got trees and big bushes, etc that prevent you from going along the property line, just get as close as you can. I've had friends do this before, usually when their neighbors weren't home. The reason for this is to get the entity off your property entirely (Out of the house and off your land). It works amazingly well.

I think the advice that you have received from the poster named 'serious answer' is right on target. You can buy dried sage bundles used for these kinds of ceremonies at the Native American museum downtown; I have also seen them at Whole Foods Market.

I have read that sprinkling salt around the outside of your house can offer protection from ghosts.

Good luck to you!

Thanks "Hmmm", and you're right about the salt.

Its very important that this be done soon while the spirit is still weak. The longer you delay and the worse things will get. Ghosts get mad when you don't pay attention to them and work that much harder to get your attention.

Have you tried burning your house down? That seems to always work.

In the mid 1070's I babysat in a white house on Coumbia Pike Barcroft area. The entire night I heard foot steps upstairs. At first I thought it was the little boy walking around so I went up to check on him but he was fast asleep. When I told the parents about hearing the sounds of walking around upstairs they told me they hear it too and have checked everywhere including the attic but can't find anything! I never went back

What were homes like in the 11th century?

Surprised nobody has mentioned this. This works for all size ghosts(big, small, medium, large). Wear garlic cloves around your neck.

More than likely you just have some squirrels or racoons somewhere in your walls/attic. Either that or its the pipes, sometimes pipes make weird noises.

I say, if it isn't a pest and it isn't the pipes, just ignore it, fretting about it is just going to make you worry about it more and make you hear it more.

Serious response:

Burn some sage and waft the smoke throughout your house. Then, find a quiet place, relax, and try talking to the ghost. As why it's there and what it wants. Explain that you're happy to co-exist in the house as long as it isn't malicious.

If it's not harming you in any way, trying to get rid of it will probably just piss it off more. I'm surprised your sister's "psychic friend" hasn't said any of this; she is more than likely a fraud.

Of course, as Ian said, it could just be squirrels, raccoons, pipes, the house settling, etc. Don't come to a supernatural conclusion until you've ruled out perfectly normal explanations.
