Major gas leak on Rt 123. Enjoy your evening commute. I'm sure this have half the county major road systems closed for days.

The leak's at Orchard and 123. 123 closed between 50 and Eaton. Biz evacuated. Blew manhole cover off street. Work crews will be there anytime now. Fairfax Fire on scene.

Remarkably, the problem appears to have been solved, at least temporarily. Traffic is normal (actually light) both ways on Rt 123 / Chain Bridge Road there. Don't ask me how that can be, it was a roaring leak that made waves in the air in the early afternoon. I guess the gas company was able to turn off gas to whatever was leaking.

Amazing the difference in response between a private company and the county government when dealing with a situation that closes down a major road during rush hour

Remember the hay truck fire that shut down I-66 during evening rush?

You do know it's the fire department who's in charge of a gas leak that significant, right?

But that would fuck up your argument so....nevermind. Carry on being a whining bitch.

The gas company was on scene. The FFX county fire dept turned the line repair/shut-off over to them. They were, of course, the first to respond but the private gas company solved the problem. So, you're the whining bitch. Get your facts straight before you go off the handle.

Someone else needs to get their facts straight. This is in the City of Fairfax and on the side of the fire truck it says "Fairfax City Virginia". Not the county. There is a difference. Looks like Fire Chief Dave Rohr and Assistant Fire Chief Andrew Wilson took care of business in this case. Good job men.

At least noone was killed THIS time. Piping gas under the street is jusk asking for trouble. All electric homes with heat pumps are the only way to go if you want to live.
Washington gas alone has killed hundreds of people over the years.
