Our high school has the PE classes power walking instead of running! My son is totally embarrassed.

Uh...where is this from - my daughter for sure is/has been doing mile runs.

They should just go back to what we had to do in middle school - run for 12 minutes. Whether you made 3 laps or 1/3 it didn't matter. And you could walk.

When I was a kid, I sucked at music...imagine if I had gone home and told my parents that it hurt my self esteem not to be first chair ; if my parents had gone in and asked to put me in first chair, the music teacher would have laughed his ass off and then told my parents to go fuck themselves. Now, I would have a fighting chance at becoming first chair despite the fact that I sucked.

You must have gone to a school with dirt floors panty waste! When I was in school we had the presidential fitness awards and everybody strived to receive it, male and female. We DID have the mile run, sit ups, pull ups and the girls did the flex arm hang. Now we have the bitches (male and female) that dont even particpate in gym class. My attitude is one of a proud American. There is no way school is harder now than it was, there is no pride in todays kids. I've often thought about this very thing as I look at these fucking helicopter parents who want everything done for their precious snowflake, but yet do nothing themselves but bitch and complain that it's not enough and everything wrong is everyone else's fault. I couldn't be a teacher in today's society. Have a large group of parents get together a petition with many, many signatures stating YOU want your kids to get more out of PE than learning the value of good nutrition (good information to know, but...) and history of Tennis, etc. You want them to learn the physical skills necessary for daily survival, if it’s ever needed. For example:

Make sure each student is learning how, and can, to do at least (1) pull-up

Take them outside when it is very cold outside so they can get acclimated to the weather so when they do go outside in the snow they won’t have an asthma attack from the cold air. Very rarely do kids play outside in the cold, UNLESS there is a good snow.

The same applies to the September heat. Rarely do they play outside in very hot weather. Then, when school starts, they fall-out when they start running for PE. Oooooph.

Our kids are very “soft”. While academics are extremely important, it won’t mean a damn thing if your kids are dead at 35 years of age from a Stroke, Heart Disease, complications from Diabetes, etc.

Only you guys can bring change about.
