Sobriety Checkpoint Results in Fair Oaks Police District

Fairfax County police officers from around the county conducted a sobriety checkpoint to deter and apprehend intoxicated drivers on Saturday, October 8 from 11:30 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. Sunday. All motorists were stopped and drivers were checked to assure that their abilities to drive had not been impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Approximately 893 motorists passed through the checkpoint in the westbound lanes of Lee Jackson Memorial Highway near the intersection of Alder Woods Drive. One arrest was made for DWI; seven summonses were issued for miscellaneous traffic offenses.

Ten auxiliary officers and eight police officers participated in this operation.

1 arrest...1 arrest? 1...fucking...arrest?!?!

So, I'm guessing this means FCPD has "solved" drinking and driving?

I make 1 arrest taking a dump...1 arrest...

Hey but "good work" on the 7 summonses...1 arrest...

I was at a wedding off Fair Ridge dr, the checkpoint was very easy to avoid as you could see the cop lights from a good distance back coming down rt50 westbound. I would assume anyone who felt their intoxication level was questionable would have turned off onto Fair Ridge and made a u turn.

Thank you for posting this. It's unreal to me that after decades of enforcing DUI/DWI laws, the police still struggle to setup an effective checkpoint.

It's somewhat disconcerting that ten "free" police reps and eight paid police officers worked for three hours and inconvenienced almost 900 cars (with how many citizens?) to catch ONE DWI.

It's almost as thought it's some pointless show for the public and not really an effective strategy at all.

PAPERS PLEASE!

There's no way a roadblock can be effective with texting and twitter sites that give out its location the minute it starts and sometimes before.

Roadblocks are all about publicity stunts and hoping to catch somebody with warrants. You place the roadblock on a highway where you can stop cars and ask for licenses and registrations. This way you can get around search warrants to search cars.

So basically 900 cars were checked for baby seats, paying taxes(tags), illegals, outstanding warrants and other violations.

Right..and they caught a massive =7= violators. Whole bunch of traffic tickets for 18 officers and three hours work, huh?

If you were a FFX district captain would you want to have the highest total of DUI stops in the county. Hell no! You would want the lowest number of DUI's so other FFX districts look like they have a problem.

A lot of these roadblocks are setup to target drivers entering a district so it shows that the other district was the problem.

Is this even constitutional?? Where's the probable cause? This is like Clint Eastwood in Soviet Russia in the movie Firefox. Sad what this country has become.

And then...as if the RESULTS weren't depressing enough. Some FCPD public relations person is PAID to report this on Fairfax Underground!

If I mis-used county assets and employees such that I netted 1 fucking arrest, I sure as hell would not publicly POST about it...

Checkpoints are a complete WASTE of my taxpayer dollars going to a concept that is a failure. To pay some police to sit around and inconvenience motorists is just appalling. Action needs to be taken to prevent these setups which infringe on our rights!

I was staying at the Hilton Garden Inn on Fair Ridge that night and until I got bored and went to bed I counted 19 cars that turned onto Fair Ridge, made a U-Turn and headed back Eastbound on Rt. 50 where they had just come from.
I'm pretty sure most if not all of those U-Turns were people who weren't sure they could pass the DUI tests.
Heck, a couple had a hard time making the U-Turn even with 3 open lanes heading back to the light at Rt. 50.
Oh, the post at the top that started this thread is not accurate as it says - "All motorists were stopped..."
That not correct. When traffic really backed up, the Police would wave through a couple dozen people so as not to create a traffic jam before resuming the DUI checkpoint stops.

I'm not paid by anyone, I'm just goofing off here at work because I'm bored plus I like to post things like this to see how your tax dollars are squandered on useless pursuits like this, while crackhouses and Illegal aliens thrive.

My apologies...Since there was no editorial accompanying your initial post, I did not understand its context. Thank you for the clarification and please continue to provide such insightful information about our public resources.
