Fake ADT Guy in Centreville

Last night a guy was going door to door in west C-ville (specifically London Towne West), claiming to be with ADT. He said that "due to recent break-ins and fires in the zip-code" they were going around offering service. Said they had a special promotion going where if they could put an ADT sign in our yard, we'd get free ADT equipment.
He was not wearing any kind of uniform, just a green and grey winter coat. I called ADT, and they said they do NOT go door to door, and had no such ridiculous promotion going. I called the cops, and they sent a car around looking for the guy, but he was long gone by then.
Just wanted to let people know about it. The only thing I can think is that he was casing to find houses without existing alarm systems (any yard with his fake ADT sign would then be an obvious target in the next day or two), but it could be something else entirely.

I have had a friend who worked for ADT in Maryland. He said he quit a long time ago because he refused to do cold calling for them and go door to door. They are based on comission so it is normal for them to go door to door or call you. I am not saying that he may NOT be a criminal but from what you said he sounds legit.

ADT is like a franchise. If you contact ADT direct they have different promotions/prices than other "authorized contractors". We have ADT and got different quotes from different installers.

I saw an ADT dude and 2 hot ADT girls doimg the same thing in Lake ridge. They were for real. They had county soliciting badges. This dude was probably real but he should have gotten a soliciting permit. That makes things better for everyone.
\He can still get in trouble for soliciting without a permit. You can still call the non emergency number. Is better to call than just sit there and let the KHAT in the hat come inside with thing 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,
