Arthur Treachers - Fairfax Circle
Posted by: Fairfax Felix ()

Does anyone know what gives with the Arthur Treachers right off Fairfax Circle. Its been there for more than 25 years and there is hardly ever anyone in there. Wonder if they're peddling something other than fish & chips. Looks "fishy" to me.

This has been covered on FFXU before. All I can do is leave you the image of a doomed man in his suburban hellhole...

...Imagine the blood of his family glistening in the yellow and green lights of Arthur Treacher's after they ate dessert from a 12-guage following this deep fried meal of shame.

I would rather get some grub at the Lamb Center than Arthur Treacher's. This place has cockroaches, no joke. Years ago, and still. Drug front, no doubt, it has to be. The only folks I've seen in here, are wearing what appear to be dentures and plaid pants. Not exactly hot business material

I've never eaten there, but would rather eat there than plenty of other gross places in the area - like Malik's and Teeno Zytoon-seriously, I've never even seen a car there. I wonder how the chicken place next to the laundromat is doing.

ALL restaurants have cockroaches and other vermin.

But don't worry about it, protein is protein.

Ha, the other thread from a few weeks ago made me stop there today and get my deep fried on. Good stuff! The little asian guy I guess is the owner, Porsche Cayenne sitting in the back parking space. Niiiiice, not a bad way to make some $$$, I couldn't help but wonder how too because I was there at prime lunch hour and there were only a couple people coming through.

Mary's Restaurant "Pollo Ala Brasa" (with a dying chicken on the grill for a logo) seems to have built a follwing already, I'd guess from the locals that use that huge landroumat. Which brings up the next question, how the hell are they making enough to take up 3 store fronts and stay in business????

Something Fishy going on around there.

Went to Arthur Treachers for lunch today and it was delicious. The little asian guy started yelling at the hispanic woman who cooked my food telling her "MORE, MORE" like she wasnt giving me enough fries.

That Arthur Treachers is still around because they cook awfully good fish & chips. Everything is cooked to order and is always hot and the owner is a nice guy. If you want to see when they do their big business just stop in on a Friday evening especially during Lent.

Arthur Treacher's makes Long John Silver's gourmet. If that isn't fucked up, I don't know what is, but sometimes the truth isn't too pretty at all. Seriously, at AT's, that's chicken and fish? LOL!!!!!!!!

Is it possible, I know I saw this earlier today, that this is some sort of drug front? Seriously, like two old peeps in there if any, and no good businesses other than the ghetto Citgo next door. How can it afford the rent, and insurance, workman's comp, etc, and still be in? Kind of like El Taco in Manassas, another suspicious character.

That place has been there at least since 1975 .I had a girlfriend who worked ther and gave me lots of free food and it was good. Gerome Gibson lived next door in a Sears house he built there in 1924. He was an expert gunsmith and taught me alot. What did they put un his lot between Treachers and Colonial Electric?

I ate there and it was bad. All you can taste is the deep fried coating, and the oil tasted as old as Egypt. It's dirty in there and the round hairy Spanish woman making the food looked unclean.
An Asian guy with plaid pants came in , parading around, counting a big wad of money. It was a bit surreal. If only the food was decent, I could enjoy the other stuff.

blake lane 73, actually nothing has gone in between arthur treacher's and

colonial electric. seems like they've had several auctions to try and sell

the lot over the last few years but no action. right now has another for sale

sign up from yet another realtor.

Sadly, the SEARS house is long gone. A number of other SEARS houses around the

county and Fairfax city have also disappeared due to overdevelopment.

Well the house is gone but the oak tree still stands on the lot.

btw, Colonial Electric is no more. About 4 years ago the gentleman who owned

Colonial retired. Some electric supply store over in Vienna bought the name

but really never went further with it and took down the sign. Now a carpet

store in that location

yeah but lately the old memory comes and goes

I don't know why I remember a specific time going into the Dart Drug that was in same spot as present day Staples store. And going to the old Fairfax Cirlce theater.

I just always liked seeing the old house next to Arthur Treacher's. The place was always so nice looking with all them big trees in the yard. use to be a lot of folks like that about but guess they've all died off and nowadays folks don't care or hire the lawn service companies.

Just don't care for the look of all these oversized houses on small lots.

Wife and I stopped by there 2 years ago. I don't think either of us had been to an Arthur Treachers since the 1970s, but had fond memories. So, we decided to give it a try.

Good food. Thumbs up!

(but it did look deserted).

I have no idea what some of you guys are talking about.

Arthur Treachers has been there forever because they actually have GOOD fish and chips. There isn't anything disgusting about this place at all. The people are nice, and it is always clean. They easily blow Long John Silvers out of the water...

Been eating there since '83.

I tried that Arthur Treacher's after momentary glee that one was still open. My take was that the fryer oil was long overdue to be changed.

I'll stick with the Citgo next door which always has the best diesel prices around, often by $0.15/gallon or more. I feel brief pangs of guilt at giving money even indirectly to Hugo Chavez, but that's capitalism for you.

If you are just looking for fish n chips go to the same location. The place is called abc canteen and the fish n chips are 100x better than that garbage treachers served.

The fish at the ABC canteen will never compare to Arthur Teacher's as the fish resemble thick fish finger type pieces. With that said, they do have a weekday lunch special with two fish fingers, small fries and a small drink for $6.

On top of that, the place is very clean and the people who work there are polite and attentive.

I like Capt D's Good fried batter fish..Plus Fries, Hush puppy Balls, Veggies.. Broiled Fish. The Sampler ..Shrimp, Clams, is good too. My complaint is the same old..Too much salt..bout 2800 mg for a 3 piece fish dinner with fries.. I keep my salt licks to just bout that..For the Whole Day!! But Every Joint is a Salt Lick Including that GREAT Place In Texas baby! The Original Salt Lick BBQ!! But I will Hog Out If I Ever Get There!!

great food but...

a little far from where i am. but i'd still have gone there instead of a closer (mc'donald's, subs, what) if ...

* if the prices weren't so high - almost as high as 'long jon silver's' (and they mean bring a fist full of silver at sterling prices - a large hand to hold the ammount, or canvas bag, if you bring a large family - the weight of silver couldn't be held by a grocery store plastic bag !!)

* if the seating didn't seam like it was a slightly dirtier version of a mc'donald's from 1970 that never got renovated

great place - would definitely visit infrequently if i ever ate out. i very rarely do. no money.

I ate there about five years ago right before playing tennis at Fairfax Racquet Club

I was surprised it was still there, at the time.

Growing up, there was one on Rt1 near Beacon Hill. It's long gone.
