Anyone remember Pizza Hut's Priazzo Pizza?
Posted by: Dash ()
Date: January 13, 2008 11:08PM

Am sure I'm dating myself here, but back in the 80's there was a Priazzo Pizza from Pizza hut that rocked. It was, more or less, a stuffed pizza; not like the stuffed crust one out now but more like s'barros stuffed pizza. Awesome pie. Why did they get rid of it!

Little Caesars is still around in MD and other areas of VA, just not FFX. It was a dish fit for the gods.

God I loved the Priazzo. My first job was a server at Pizza Hut and that is when they had the Priazzo. I have tried some great stuffed pizza since then, but quite frankly, nothing has come close to it. Back then they used to make all their own dough on site, now they just order pre-packaged crap. I find it odd that only certain pizza crusts come in certain sizes and their p-zones are only with certain toppings. Sometimes I wish I could talk with one of the old cooks and see if they remember the recipe.

Pizza hut has been circling the drain for some time now. They are going to try a re-launch like Dominos did a few years ago. I feel like chicken tonight like chicken tonight.

I was just looking up Priazzo to show my kid and there was your question. It was awesome! Bought it once a week in my early twenties working construction.
I think it didn't stick around because it didn't look like a lot of food. Were they ever wrong. I need to look for a way to make it.
Thanks for the post.

My first job was at Pizza Hut in 87 making $3.85 an hour, plus a free small 1 topping pizza a day.

Back then there were only 2 crust available, pan and thin. Pan pizza's were personal, big topper (lunch only) small medium and large. One of the jobs at the end of the night was oiling the pans, small 1 squirt, medium 2 squirts, large 3 squirts. Each squirt was pretty generous.

Priazzo's were made from the thin crust, so you put the dough through the roller and placed it in a medium pan, Sauce toppings, cheese. 2nd layer of thin crust, sauce cheese. To get it to bake evenly we had to stick a metal ring heavily coated with vegelene with prongs in it.

The things didn't sell, on a busy night we would sell 5-10 at the most, however they were delicious.

Little Caesars in huntsman when they served the pizza in huge paper bags! They didn't have those cool white tables (like Pizza Hut) to keep the cheese from sticking to the bag.
Chopsticks Chinese food next door was the bomb too.
After stuffing my face, I would go inside to that tiny, mold emanating EROLs video.....
After getting "fright night" on VHS for the twelfth time, I would sit in those Epcot like chairs outside giant and watch all the plus sized women shop at dress barn....nothing sexier than career women in stockings and easy spirit pumps. As a virgin, I already knew that overworked and underpaid soccer moms would be the BEST PUSSY....
I didn't need movies about STIFLERs mom to know what's up...milf pussy 4 Eva!

I don't remember the name Priazzo... but the 'stuffed crust' pizza in the 80's was GREAT at Pizza Hut...

Along with their 'sit down' arcade games of Asteriods, etc., that we played while waiting for our food

I remember that pizza. My parents got it for us once when we lived over in King's Park. They used to just go pick up Domino's from the KP shopping center or get Arthur Treacher's if they were out in Fairfax Circle.

But this time the ordered this Priazzo. It gave all of us uncontrollable diarrhea for about two days after we ate it. My parents never got it again.

Those were great days. I love to remember stuff.

Another KP kid here. Do you remember the Fortuna restaurant in KP shopping center? A big greasy Italian guy named Wally owned the place. He would sell us just one beer in a dark glass if we were over 16. We thought we were so cool drinking beer underage. He would only sell us one beer each per day.

I do remember that place!

Vinnie's, too. It was always a treat when our folks would take us to Vinnie's. They had this guy who played and sang lounge-y cover songs in the bar/lounge area. Our folks would let us go up and tip him to play stuff like piano man or other songs he knew.

KP was a great place to grow up. So many kids and friends. We would pretty much just roam the neighborhood and play during the summer - no worries about getting messed with or anything like that. I hear it's not the best neighborhood anymore which is kinda sad.

Yeah I sold my Dads KP house a couple years back after he passed away in the house he bought in 1970. Asian folks bought the house and they are renting it to multiple GMU kids. More and more KP houses are going that route according to the realtor. I guess college students can pay good rent money and are not picky about cosmetic flaws in the houses. I used to love playing with my friends at the creek that flowed through the neighborhood between Thames and Parliament.

Joe and Vinnies in Warrenton makes a deep dish pizza that is very close to the Priazzo. Joe no longer works there but Vinnie has been there 25 plus years. If you go and see Vinnie be sure to say "Fuck You" with a smile on your face. He is one of those New York Italians who say "Fuck you" instead of "Hi how you doin?" The restaurant is a shithole but the food is fantastic.

Marmite stuffed pizza? That sounds horrible. And we all know Vegemite is the superior yeast extract.

Anyone remember fresh, hot fish and chips from Arthur Treacher's?

I remember.

I love remembering. Makes me think about times when things didn't suck so much. Also the Fanta was really good.

Get a pan pizza with the toppings you like and extra cheese then get a thin crust pizza of the same size and gently lay it on top of the pan pizza. Thats as close to a priazzo as you can get.

So did the pizza sit on top or did the spikes go into the pizza from the bottom? I would think the heat going through the spikes into the pizza would more evenly cook it. Wonder if you can buy something like that today? If they brought it back for a limited time I'm all in. Might try to make my own in the meantime. Not hungry for leftover Chinese after reading this thread!

Finally found the answer from a message board post from 2005! They are called heat sinks. I will be asking for one of these for Christmas.

INGREDIENTS
1/2 pound ground beef
1 small onion, chopped
1 small green pepper, chopped
2 loaves (1 pound each) frozen bread dough, thawed
4 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
18 slices pepperoni
1 can (4 ounces) sliced mushrooms, drained
1 can (15 ounces) pizza sauce
DIRECTIONS
In a large skillet, brown ground beef, onion and green pepper until meat is no longer pink; drain.
Meanwhile, divide one loaf of bread dough in half. Press over the bottom and up the sides or two 9-in. greased pie plates. Sprinkle each pie with 1-1/2 cups mozzarella cheese. Divide beef mixture and spoon over cheese. Top with pepperoni and mushrooms.
Divide remaining loaf of bread; form into two 10-in. circles. Cover each pie with dough; crimp edges to seal.
Spread half of the pizza sauce onto each pie. Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake at 400° for 25-30 minutes. Yield: 12-16 servings

Tried it. OK but not anywhere near as good as real priazzo.

How can they end up with a dough that has to be thrown out if it was made by someone called the "dough master"? How many pieces of dough have to be thrown out before the master is no longer the master?

I thought I was the only one to remember the Priazzo. Best thing Pizza Hut ever sold, IMO. I'm not even sure that Pizza Hut delivered back in those days - we always ate in the restaurant. You would order from the waitress and she would bring that wonderful Priazzo to your table on a tray and she would put it on a little stand and leave you with a serving utensil. Now I think many/most of them do not even have waitresses, table service, etc.

The deep dish pizza from Giordano's in Chicago is the closest I've found.

I would give my ex-wife's left tit for a Priazzo.

yes i remmeber

it was greasy as hell

it was in the 1990's doctors exposed grease factories as heart attack makers and intestine ruiners

PIzza Hut franchise has had 30 yrs to change and only added more grease. Reason: they are not out for return customers. They are out to rip off nuevo riche family who want to buy into franchises - sell them land, force them into selling it back at a big loss.

Pizza hut is going retro. They will be making Priazzo on Wednesday nights only and you have to call a hour before you want to pick it up or have it delivered. One size only (large) and it will cost 47 dollars.
