Can someone please explain why there are only 2 lanes now when crossing over Stonecroft? I thought the purpose was to widen the road, and by making this change, the traffic going east in the morning is now equivalent to the nightmare coming home in the evening. I was hoping this would just be temporary, but a yellow line has been painted which leads me to believe otherwise. My once 30 minute commute has practically doubled this week due to this.

No idea why they have it to 2 lanes in 50 east.
No body was working today (might be becuase of rain) but the morning commute is really getting painful.

looks like its been a while since anyone posted. So here is a question/comment.
I guess that things are coming along pretty good. I did see a change EAST bound traffic- where SHEETZ gas station is. Its not a added lane- just a new road veers to the left now as 2 lanes.

here is my question/concern. RT 50 EAST would flow better during rush hour right after Stonecroft. Where the THIRD lane started.

well, now, its two lanes. One lane was taken away in order to add an additional turning lane going LEFT. Are there really that many people making left turns there? and not that many going EAST or towards 28?

If they needed 2 lanes turning left at ever left turn from StoneCroft to 28- why didnt they wait until there was that extra lane on 50? Now the traffic has gotten worse.

anyone know?

The article above just shows the lack of intelligence at vdot, they close the lane then reopen it..

all the while our tax payers money is being used and abused...vdot is a joke

Sr, read the comments above that were posted today. The link that was also posted has some good news as well. Looks like the situation will be resolved by next week.

can you imagine for 3 years they planned it closed

----
At some point, the third lane may need to be closed, but I will be working with them to find a way to do it on a temporary basis (ie, off-peak times, etc) rather than the 3 year permanent closure that was planned.

No way, especially with all the new development and houses being built between now and then. I was already in the process of working on getting to work an hour earlier to avoid some of the mess. I do have to give them credit for getting this resolved so quickly.

It's interesting to see that the proverbial tipping point has been reached with the lane closures. Get used to it.

a) there are 1000s of new homes being built/still in the pipeline along the Route 50 corridor.
b) for some inexplicable reason the road widening currently planned (which would be inadequate if completed tomorrow) is going to take years. And there will be lane closures.

I knew this moment would come when I saw the building continue relatively unabated and then the Route 50 construction plan-schedule. Traffic is spilling over into a colossal mess on all the alternative routes (Poland-Henderson, Braddock, Tall Cedars, 606-Loudoun Co Pkwy-Old Ox Rd. Fortunately I have a reverse commute but it is painful to observe the gridlock.

This doubled my commute time, I don't even have to go past 28 on 50. I can understand lane closure, but when you close it, DO WORK. Don't just close it and do work somewhere else. The traffic this week has been completely screwed because of this.

I also don't understand why every time I drive by the construction on 50, I see a couple of guys just standing round watching one guy work. No wonder it takes 3 years to build.

Is there a 'artist rendering" or any type of map- of what RT 50 will supposedly look like? If yes, can you post the link to this blog? I am assuming there is something out there that is available to the public since this project has been approved.

thanks!

Does anyone know why it takes 3 years to complete the road widening.. I heard from my friends that they will be opening the third lane in couple of months.. Is that correct?

After all, lets consider this: In the beginning had they thought harder about holding those thousands of future new occupants hostage in those hundreds of thousands of future new townhouses and condos planned for the Route 50 corridor, they could have invited the MacQuairie Public Utilities/Transportation Investment Consortium back to Nova to bid on a new "Toll Rd.segment" (to be overbuilt on, and used in lieu of the "formerly crowded but free Route 50" corridor)! It would have been finished in less than a year, if they were to do the same thing they did to complete the Greenway in record time! And all of you would be looking forward to $5.00 tolls in and $5.00 tolls out again (to start, just for those 4-5 miles!) on your daily commutes! Why not broach the idea to your employers instead to temporarily allow flex time commuting hours--might even save a bit of the $5.00 / gallon gas in the next couple of "3 years" while they stand around on Route 50 and try to look busy while watching each other work at looking busy!

Rt. 50 between Chantilly Target and South Riding is fuuuucked up right now. This shit is taking FOREVER. Although, I am starting to see what the project will look like when it's done.

By the time its complete there will be so many house in East gate,Stone ridge,Bramblenton, south Riding and sourrounding areas that they would need an extra lane.

What do you expect when VDOT only hires retards and voters elect leftwing politicians who are hellbent on paying back the corrupt unions who illegally funded them?
