If you're a resident of the county, I think they just charge a $1.00 fee. I might be wrong on the fee - it might now be free. I used to pay a buck when I lived in the county.

Actually, it's now $2.00. If it's a refrigerator, you have to remove the freon. Look at the category for "white goods."

So the county expects homeowners to have a freon recovery kit? It's illegal to vent freon into the atmosphere in Fairfax county.

Please read - it says it costs $2 for items that need Freon removed:

Quote:
White Goods
Appliance that requires the removal of Freon or a capacitor $2.00

My bad. Sorry about mis-reading that part. It looks like appliances are still "free" as long as they don't have freon in them. Then, it would be $2.00.

some community/homeowner associations handle these things. Mine has a designated area to drop off large things such as couches or dryers and the like. Check your local community before you are forced to drag large objects around the county.

It depends who is sitting in the booth.

I had a lot of tree damage in the recent storms that required 4 trips to the dump in my pickup truck. All 4 loads had an identical appearance (type of material, height of stack, etc). Each time, the clerk just took a quick glance and quoted the price.

load 1: $5
load 2: $7
load 3: $10
load 4: $6

BTW, this is the shit that they grind up and give out as mulch. Recyclable stuff that used to be free not so long ago.

Ah, we'll need to have an address and then consider it done.

are you replacing or will you be replacing the appliance with a new one? If so, I know that Lowe's, Home Depot, Sears will provide free haul away with purchase.

Also, any junk removal place will do this $$$ if you do not want the hassle of lifting, moving and loading the behemoth.

^^^^No joke. Breaking into pieces is another option. My bathroom handyman guy disposed of our toilet, old cabinet and sink in a powder room in the same manner. All smashed into pieces with his sledgehammer, then put in a heavy duty contractor black trash bag, tossed into our AAA rolling bin and done.

Move it out to the curb, put an ad on craigslist under the free listing, say that it works, and then watch the fun

Same with me, I have to haul brush and tree limbs to the dump all the time. Usually they charge me $5, but every once in a while I get this fucking Hispanic woman who takes her job ultra seriously and charges me $10 for having a "full sized pick-up truck." Bitch.

Doesn't anyone buy the scrap metal on these appliances? In Alabama, people would haul these things away for free and take them to a scrap metal yard. It was big business.

If someone were to be in this business, they'd need a fair amount of land. And, to have a nice portion of land in this area means high property taxes ... and developers chasing you down so they can buy you out to build homes or strip malls on your land.

There used to be a scrap business out on Rt. 29 in Gainesville up until 10 - 12 years ago. There were lots of appliances that would get dumped onto the grounds until the scrap truck came in and smashed them down and hauled them away. The other side of it meant that it was also a bit of an eyesore. People don't like looking at the junky messes along the roadways that serve as scrap metal yards.

Jokes about dumping in public, sides of roads, etc aside, please don't do that. Rains and weather will take these into stream areas and volunteers get hurt getting those out of there. Especially when they settle down embankments and where there are no trails.

Same place I dump my used motor oil, right on the street. I find it easiest to change my truck's oil right over the storm drain on Americana drive.

Home Depot parking lot is best and free. Plus multiple convenient locations unlike the dump. If you take to dump they charge fee plus Freon has to be removed which although is a nuisance is easy. Just cut the line and it all bleeds out in a few minutes. Of course the so called “climate Activists” like that Greta Thornburg retard may have a problem it, but who cares? We’ll all be dead long before the planet blows up

Just drive out to any Great Falls neighborhood and dump your shit on the side of the road. That stuff will be gone in less than a day, rich folks don't like old junk.

Also I don't always litter but when I do it's in Great Falls, its picked up quick.
