I have lived in Centreville my whole life, but I wasn't alive in the 70s. However, I can say that 70s Centreville was better. Nothing can be worse than how it is now.

An interesting thing about the Bull Run Grill is that (over the years) many of its patrons were descendants of local African-American families that had lived in the immediate Centreville/Manassas area for hundreds of years. With the recent housing boom most of these families have since moved on, selling to developers their land which had been in the family for generations.
An older gentleman told me this amusing story about the Bull Run Grill. In the early 1960's he and a group of classmates were retuning home from a Militay School (possibly VMI) for a semester break. Traveling down Rt. 29 and about 15-20 miles from home, they decided to stop at the Bull Run Grill for a few drinks. He said when they walked in all hell broke loose and almost everyone bolted for the closest exit. Apparently the patrons, seeing this large group of uniformed white guys approaching, assumed it was a police raid and got the hell out of Dodge.

In the 1970's you could look up in the sky and see thousands of stars. With todays light polution you are lucky to see a few dozen. Traffic; there was none. Red lights; there were two (one at 29 and Braddock, one at 29 and 28.) Zero lights between Centreville and Fairfax City. Speed limit was 55mph on 29. You you could cruise 60-65mph into FFX City without having to brake or slow down. So much easier and quicker to get around back then!
Perhaps 90 percent on Centreville was undeveloped in the 1970's so camping, fishing, dirtbike riding hiking, exploring etc. were common activities for local kids back then. Asthetic beauty was also greatly enhanced. Trees, fields and historic farms beat their replacements, (strip malls, townhouses, and condos) in my opinion.
Today people are packed into Centreville like sardines. Not the case back in the day where open space and a relaxed stess-free lifestyle ruled.

As far back as I remember Centreville say about 1980 the Newgate shopping center was about it. The Trader Joes was a Peoples Drug , the post office / fabric store was a Giant. There was a ABC store and the library was on the back side lower level.

That was an RV dealer in the late 80's, early 90's. They moved out to 234 in Manassas.
Commercial activity? It was primarily farm land and horses.

Once you get past all of your racism, you can see that this is one of the better places in Fairfax County to live. You still are close to the mountains and close to the city. Take that home son!

Where Was the pictured Bull Run Grill? I have lived in Western Fairfax County since 1985, cannot remember seeing this place. I do remember the Hunters Lodge and the Pig N Chic on Lee Highway.

Bull Run Grill was on the south side of rt 29 right before the Bull Run Bridge.

There used to be a Civil War souvenir store near this same place up until 1985'ish? It looked a lot like the building in the photo. Rock quarry on 29 had a small pull-off area that would fit like 1 and a 1/2 cars. 70's Centreville was better... not much traffic and 29 was a blast to drive FAST to/from intersection at Sudley Rd. in PW county with a big block Camero or Mustang.

Really? go hit Londontowne. As for being better, go look at Annandale. That is the future of Centreville. Huge shithole. Thank the libtards.
