No one injured when crane collapses on Route 7 in Tysons Corner
Traffic being re-routed through detour; delays may persist

Counstructiuon crews and Fairfax County police are working to remove a construction crane that collapsed on the westbound lanes of Route 7 in Tysons Corner this afternoon, causing traffic delays.

According to the Virginia State Police, Fairfax County police are working to remove the fallen crane that fell near Interstate 495 around 4:30 p.m., just before rush hour began.

Fairfax police could not be reached for comment.

According to the Metropolitan Area Transportation Operations Coordination program, drivers were re-routed to the Inner Loop of the Beltway, then to Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) and then back to Route 7 eastbound.

No injuries were reported.

Delays may persist into the evening, according to MATOC.

Update: 8:58 p.m. WTOP Radio has reported that Route 7 in Tysons Corner has reopened to traffic.

A crane collapse crippled traffic this afternoon at Route 7 and the Beltway blocked the westbound lanes of Route 7 during the evening rush hour.

Update 6:10 p.m.: No injuries occurred in the crane collapse, Fairfax County Police said.

Update 5:26 p.m.: Route 7 West is expected to be shut down for several hours, according to Fairfax County.

Original 4:56 p.m.:All lanes of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west at I-495 are blocked after crane equipment fell on the road Monday afternoon, according to Virginia Department of Transportation officials.

Virginia State and Fairfax County Police and crews are onsite working to remove the crane from the roadway. Motorists should expect delays into this evening’s rush and use alternative routes.

Traffic is being directed from Route 7 west onto I-495 north.

Motorists on I-495 north exiting to Exit 47A, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west should use Exit 46A, Chain Bridge Road south to access Tysons Corner.
