Your selfish need to be pat on the back for being the first to chime in leaves a lot of important information out.

Comments 0 Motorcycle ride to raise funds for police, honor anniversary of Sept. 11 attacks
By: Emily Babay | Examiner Staff Writer | Follow her: @emilybabay | 08/13/11 8:05 PM
.Thousands of motorcyclists are slated to ride through the D.C. region this week on their way to New York to raise money for emergency responders as the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks approaches.
The America's 9/11 Foundation has organized a memorial motorcycle ride from Somerset, Pa., to the Pentagon and on to ground zero in New York each August since 2002. Through sponsorships, the riders raise money for police and fire departments.

The riders will leave Pennsylvania Thursday and arrive in New York Saturday.

As of late last week, about 1,800 motorcyclists were slated to take part, said Ted Sjurseth, the Leesburg-based foundation's president.

Over the past 10 years, the foundation has distributed $180,000 in college scholarships to children of emergency responders, $165,000 in equipment donations to police departments and $300,000 in cash donations to departments, he said.

"We're here to honor the heroes we have around us every day," Sjurseth said.

He said 155 police officers are expected to participate in the ride. Many other motorcyclists are Sept. 11 survivors or lost family members in the attacks.

The first memorial ride took place in November 2001 with 250 people. Since then, Sjurseth said, it's been held in August and about 600 to 800 riders participate each year.

But far more people expressed interest for the 10th anniversary. Some officials in Northern Virginia have warned citizens that the procession will tie up traffic in the area, particularly as the motorcyclists travel through downtown Leesburg.

"It's much more of a logistics issue than it's ever been," Sjurseth said.

He said it's worth the effort to help cash-strapped police departments -- and have fun.

"It's listening to the different stories," Sjurseth said. "None of us are fundraising professionals. We're a couple of motorcycle enthusiasts."

I bet the cause was the driver of the Caddy was a wigger in a Sedan de Ville gettin' smoked up while driving.

I feel for the biker -- not a good day to be riding -- roads had to be slippery from the lack of rain. Damn. RIP

Accident at Lee Highway and Buckley’s Gate Manor Claims Life of Motorcyclist
14 August 2011 12 views No Comment Fairfax County Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 14. Officers were called to the area of Lee Highway and Buckley’s Gate Manor around 1:03 a.m. for a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a sedan.
An investigation determined that a 53-year-old man was operating a 1981 Harley Davidson motorcycle at a high rate of speed westbound on Lee Highway. A 17-year-old girl, driving a 2008 Toyota Camry, made a right turn from Buckley’s Gate Manor onto Lee Highway. She was struck from behind by the motorcycle as she proceeded down Lee Highway. The rider was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The girl was treated for minor injuries at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Fred Timothy Hall of 4415 Forest Hill Drive in Fairfax.
This investigation is ongoing. The speed of the motorcycle appears to be a factor in the crash. Minutes before the crash, police were given a lookout for a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed in that area.

I was the last person to see him alive as he passed me under the 7100 bridge going 29 south at about 120mph. I got over the hill after 10 seconds after him and he rear ended a camry, not a cadallac. The trunk was dented in so far the bikers front wheel probably reach through the back seat of the camry. RIP

1:03am in the morning on Sat. I would usually think that alcohol would of played a factor but I have heard that the biker did not drink. That would explain why he was going at down 50 at a high rate of speed. Nobody in their right mind being drunk would be driving fast on 50 at night. That stretch of road is cop central. It's the sober idiots that speed at night.

Going fast on a motorcycle at night on a slick road, bad judgement. He probably hit a wet patch with slick tires and that was it.

RIP

It's probably a factor of both; Him traveling to fast for road conditions and her doing some bonehead 17 year old driving move like pulling out and stopping for no reason.

It does appear the biker did a lot of fundraising events for Vets and kids.

NO. In Virginia a 17 year old can not be on the road past midnight.

Curfew Restrictions

Virginia's curfew laws prohibit a driver under age 18 who holds a learner's permit or driver's license from driving midnight to 4 A.M.

If you hold a driver's license you may drive during these hours:
in case of an emergency;
when traveling to and from work or a school-sponsored event;
when accompanied by a parent or other adult acting in place of a parent;
when responding to an emergency call as a volunteer firefighter or rescue squad personnel.
Passenger Restrictions

If you are under age 18, you may carry only one passenger under age 18 during the first year that you hold your driver's license. After you have held your license for one year, you may carry only three passengers under age 18 until you reach age 18. Learner's permit holders may not carry more than one passenger under age 18. Passenger restrictions do not apply to family members.
Violations of either the curfew or passenger restrictions can result in the suspension of your driver's license.
You will receive a notice that tells you when to appear in court for a licensing ceremony where you will receive your permanent driver's license. You must appear before the judge with a parent or legal guardian to receive your license.
If you are 19 years of age and older and you have never held a license issued by any state, U.S. territory or foreign country, you must hold a learner's permit for 30 days or more or show completion of a state-approved driver education program. You may take your driver education certificate to any DMV customer service center and take the road skills test.
If you fail the road skills test three times at a CSC, you must successfully complete the behind the wheel portion of an approved Virginia Driver Training School program and present the Driver Education Training Certificate with a completion date that is after the date of the third test failure to be eligible for re-examination at a customer service center. Re-examination requirements for home-schooled students can be found in Home-Schooled Re-Examination Requirements Information Sheet (HS 4).
Cellular Telephone/Wireless Telecommunications Device Restrictions

Virginia's cellular telephone law restricts a driver under age 18 who holds a learner's permit or driver's license from using any cellular telephone or any other wireless telecommunications device, regardless of whether such device is or is not hand-held. If you are under age 18, you can only use a cell phone or any other telecommunications device:
for a driver emergency;
when the vehicle is lawfully parked or stopped.

well, the curfew law will kinda be trumped by the fact the biker was doing a buck twenty down Lee

sorry, but Darwin's law is in FULL EFFECT here..........

§ 46.2-862. Exceeding speed limit.

A person shall be guilty of reckless driving who drives a motor vehicle on the highways in the Commonwealth (i) at a speed of twenty miles per hour or more in excess of the applicable maximum speed limit or (ii) in excess of eighty miles per hour regardless of the applicable maximum speed limit.

There are no old and bold motorcycle riders.

Why is a man that old riding so fast? That's usually reserved for the younger crowd who still have their heads up their asses.

So a motorcycle is coming down the street "at a high rate of speed" and the driver pulls out onto the street in front of him? If a Mack truck were coming down the street "at a high rate of speed" would you pull out in front of him?

And who estimates this speed? The driver? You mean the 17 year old who is out driving after curfew at 1:30am, and who just pulled onto the street in front of a moving vehicle killthe driver? Oh yeah, there's an unbiased, qualified source. Or maybe the officer looking at the wreckage of the car? Ever seen what a thousand pounds of steel and rider does to a car when it hits it a 50 mph?

Bunch of assholes on this site. One that keeps showing up every time this sort of thing happens. This site ought to require registration, and post IP source addresses and validated e-mail addresses.

Are you familiar w/the accident location? On 29w approaching the intersection where the Camary drive entered there is a rise, an incline in the road. It is likely that because of the incline she never saw Freddie Boy, nor did he see the car. They're called accidents for a reason.

From the known facts of the situation, it appears likely that Freddie Boy was at fault. Driving @ 120 MPH in that area is INSANE. Of course, he also paid the price. Lesson to be learned for you bikers.

C'est la vie.

Sorry, if someone is doing 120mph there isn't a wrong move that can be made by other drivers, all the "right" moves do the same thing. The rider may have been the nicest guy in the world, but going 120mph was fucking fucking dumb and he got the result he risked. I feel sorry for the Camry driver and hope she can move on with her life after some bonehead recklessly disregarded her life and the life of anyone else in the area that evening.

There are a few little hills on 29 from Fairfax City toward Centreville, he probably caught air a few times hurtling toward his doom. One less person on the road willing and capable of riding/driving 120mph, just sayin'.

It's called "Accident Investigation" and yes, they use this "unbiased" tool called SCIENCE. Perhaps you've heard of it.........but prolly not. Here's a hint for ya - what "a thousand pounds of steel and rider does to a car when it hits it a 50 mph" is about HALF of the damage it does when it hits at 120, k?

Did it ever occur to you that a 17 yr old girl may have been babysitting for someone who was out late and she was just going home AFTER WORK? It's not unlikely. Seems everyone is so quick to judge and all seem to have their certifications as accident scene reconstruction analysts. How about you all slow down and let the facts come out before blasting away with all your ignorant opinions? Timmy's family is suffering a loss no matter how it occured. And the girl is pretty shook up after having a traumatic event at such a young age. Sad all the way around for her, Timmy and all of you.

3 inches is hell at 120 mph (just ask your wormfood buddy Timmy) As to the charge of being a tough guy...and you'll have to forgive me for using a word you're probably too stupid to understand...I'd say that's a little hypocritical of you, don't you think?

And now it's 120mph? Obviously you know more than even the Police do, since they just said "high rate of speed," but you do appear to know everything, judging from your thousands of other posts.

High rate of speed is relative. In comparison to some of the tree hugging Prius drivers and other idiot drivers here in FFX county, doing the speed limit is considered a high rate of speed.

If he was actually doing 100, or 120, or whatever new mph is being thrown about, I agree it was self-inflicted. If speed is not verified, then perhaps it was the cage-girl's fault. Not sure if the speed figures are a result of accident reconstruction, or the propaganda being spewed by the media and regurgitated by FFX posters here. I'm thinking media propaganda.

Please post examples of where media reported double the speed limit widely, and the accident investigation later found the driver was going the speed limit.

I don't see a media report of 'double the speed limit', or 100, or 120 mph. All they say are 'high rate of speed', and speed may have been a factor. Also, the investigation is probably not over yet.

And yes, I believe everything I read or see in the news, especially Fox News and MSNBC.

Reread what you wrote, now back up your allegation with examples where media propaganda doubled the rate of speed in their reports than was actually the case. Epic fail.

Okay, it's not media propaganda, only idiot FFXU posters making shit up that they didn't actually read anywhere.

There are alot of people that thought very highly of Timmy and are incredibly distraught over his untimely death. I personally think that some of the rather hateful things being said, such as, he deserved it and other similar sentiments need to be erased. NO ONE deserves to die in an accident to say otherwise is offensive. For those that knew Timmy his memory cannot be besmirched by the hateful things being said by people that didn't even know he existed until Sunday 8/14/11.

A high rate of speed... maybe. I could see that on a croch-rocket but on Harley probably not a 120(Which somebody made up). Maybe more like 60 in a 45 would be a high rate of speed for a Harley.

And second, it has not been confirmed that "Timmy's" bike was the bike reported in the area at a high rate of speed.

Timmy had a reputation as a biker that had NOT touched a drop of alcohol or drugs for the last 15 years. That's one of the qualities that he made clear and was proud of.

It is also possible that he may have had an equipment malfunction since the bike was from 1981.

Yeah, 120 mph on a FL-class Harley is total bullshit.

Riding in Nova is at a great risk to life and limb. Life is short but you take greater chances on a motorcycle. If you love to ride and it is worth the risk then go enjoy yourself. I see too many bad drivers around here. Texting, talking on the cell, reading the paper at a light or just being plain stupid. I feel sorry for the man who died.

I wish car drivers cared more but they do not.

I find it hard to believe that Timmy was going 120mph on a Harley. A 120 on Harley? LOL Harleys are about sound, not croch-rocket speed. I wasn't riding with him the last time I met him, he WAS proud of not drinking. He never drank any alcohol around me. And, I did watch to see if that was BS. It wasn't BS.

Timmy was member of the WNC... The Wednesday Night Club. A bunch of bikers who shun drugs and alcohol and are united by Harleys and a past life of hard times.

As somebody who has worked with law enforcement in my past. The WNC riders really impress me. At several fundraising events: for kids, one burned down house with no insurance and a suicide of a brother biker... they are ALWAYS there...

I'm imprerssed; even some Harley riders from the FCPD motorcycle squad were at the event to remember Timmy. Perhaps because many of the WNC bikers are true Americans and have raised over $50,000 dollars for a new fire truck.

I don't know if Timmy was Vet, how fast he going, if the road was wet, did the 17 year old cause the crash. Was she texting etc... Does it really matter?

Timmy was true a true American devoid of politics. True Americans in this day and age difficult to find.

Sad to see go him go but certain he knew the risks of riding a Harley. As does every biker...

do we know in which westbound lane on Lee Highway (left or right) the impact occurred? Was the motorcycle travelling in the left (fast) lane and the car pulled out wide into the lane in front of the bike? Or, was the bike in the right (slow) lane when the collision happened?

I have been reading these post and am beside myself with the rude judgmental comments.
I am a female and ride a Harley. First off it is not that hard to go 80 mph on your bike and not even realize you are going that fast. Just like many of you have done in a car. I have a lead foot, always have, others may not.
I also have a 23 year old child, that would not be out driving alone at the age of 17 past midnight under no circumstances, ever.
The entire accident is sad and tragic and it would be nice if people would have a little respect and dont act like you have never gone over the speed limit. It is hard to judge from a distance how fast he was going, but again 80 isnt really that fast, especially when you are sober. The girl pulled out, he either didnt see her, or didnt have time to slow it down. Tragic for both families, and for the young girl also. She has to live with this for the rest of he life, even though it was not entirely her fault. Have some a little sympathy people.... We dont have to act like animals here!

FACT: We all know that Timmy was jackin-it HARD at the time at the time of the accident. And that's why he was distracted and ran into the back of that girl's car.

But is it true they found 5 pounds of semen in Timmy's stomach? It sounds plausible to me.
