Do you have any sexually transmitted diseases, are you an IV drug user or homosexual?

I will laugh if one day health experts say plasma is actually needed by us for something.

Plasma is the liquid component of human blood. I'm no doctor, but I'd venture to say that it is actually needed for something (things like circulation, living, etc.).

giving blood is a good way to get really sick. a friend of mine in college gave blood and was out of classes for two weeks.

Actually. The circulating component of the internal environment, the plasma, must be maintained at adequate volume and blood pressure to ensure bodywide distrbution of this IMPORTANT LINK betwen the external environment and the cells...

I love this. How many people give blood routinely or sporadically are there who never get sick because of it? I would guess millions.

Yet Gravis knows 1 person, probably from years ago, who got sick after giving blood so we should all stop giving blood because we will get really sick.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc.

not exactly the same... but this dude i work with had some real bad pain in his arm (this was monday), went to the doctor tuesday...

it was bad enough that they pilled him up because he had some internal bruising from straining his arm after giving blood..

I did this when I was in college. One thing to know is that if you do this over a long period of time, it's going leave permanent scar tissue where they push the needle in. I did it for a couple of years, twice a week, and you can still see the marks on both arms twenty years later.

As for the health issues, your body regenerates the plasma pretty quickly. It's not the same as giving whole blood.

Yeah and this will make u self concious about someone seeing the scars and thinking their from doing drugs...

Bzzzt. Wrong.

The G man is guilty of the fallacy of hasty generalization (or hasty induction), i.e., drawing a conclusion based on an inadequate sample size.

The post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy does not apply here, because the student apparently did become sick as a result of giving blood.

An example of the PHEPH fallacy would be Radiophile farting every morning before sunrise, and concluding that his farts cause the sun to rise.

I give blood regularly, and it doesn't have any negative side effects period.

Maybe one day you will be unfortunate enough to need blood. You are welcome.

Some victims of traumatic accidents require over 50 pints of blood. Many children rely on platelets to stay with us.

Thanks for preaching. I agree with you that it should be illegal to relay any neagtive experience one may have with giving blood. Those assholes should be in JAIL for posting that crap here!!1!

When I used to donate biweekly, they had a deal that if you had mononucleosis, you could get $400 a month ($50 a donation). Unfortunately, I didn't get mono until years later. Coulda used that money in grad school!

If you received compensation, it is not a donation. You are not a saint. You are a capitalist.

In FLA they have a lot more geezers and pay for blood. Up here, I think it's just being a Good Sam.

I've always used condoms when I shared needles so mine is safe.

My bro-in-law worked at the blood bank for a few years. They're rather quick to identify a caller that's looking to sell. They sound all desperate and shady, like an amateur drug dealer. I hope to never be that desperate.

According to him, nobody pays. If one is very very lucky, they might have some unique blood type or something... then they might get paid. This almost never happens.

Whore yourself out instead, homo if you have to.
