Strict on Car Tint?

Hello,

I'm going to be a student at George Mason University and I've got a car with 35% tint on all side windows, and 20% tint on the rear window. My black interior does make it look even darker. How much of a hassle will I receive from cops in the Fairfax area? I do have New York plates but I don't know if that will help.

Fortunately I plan on taking the CUE bus and the metro to get around the area so I won't be driving too much. But I would like some honest opinions on the situation. Thanks!

Get rid of the tint. You will be stopped and cited.

Virginia is strict as shit on window tints. I think it can be 30% on the sides and 15 on the rear, legally.

They were strict with me for years, but haven't given me a terrible time lately. 35% isn't that dark. 35% is actually legal in the rear windows.

If you get pulled over for a moving violation, that will give them more reason to ticket you, so don't drive like a maniac. Also, don't have any other goofy illegal shit on your car.

Be smart, if you are pulling up to a cop, put your window down slickly. Worst spot to pull up is next to a cop, then in front of a cop.

If you like drinking (since you're in college), be aware that they can pull you over whenever the fuck they want and stick you with a DUI if you're over the limit.

Can't speak for GMU police, but VSP and FCP are not all that strict. I've had 35% on the sides and back for 5+ years, and have been cited once by a prick VA state police motorcycle cop.

Yeah, definitely sounds like a prick. Who does that trooper think he is enforcing the law anyway? The nerve of that guy.

VA Law states 50% on the driver and passenger side window, and 35% on any rear windows, and nothing lower than 4" on the front windshield.

You WILL be pulled over by any officer on patrol who enforces traffic infractions and equipment violations.
