Have you been to sold out show at filene Center Wolf Trap

Been to 5 shows this summer and none close to sell out. I'm guessing M.Ward was closest but even that looked a couple short of sell out. Attendance last summer seemed way better. What gives? People tired of live music or it's the Great Recession
I marvel at all the advertising Wolf Trap does and yet few sell out shows

The NSO Casablanca show Saturday night looked to be sold-out. No room left on the lawn, at least. That said, the July 7 NSO show (on a Thursday night) had a lot of empty seats, which was a shame because the young violinist who was featured was incredibly talented, making the show well worth coming out to on a work night!

Maybe the weather is a factor--the hottest July on record may have kept some people home. (A friend said he's skipped another show last week for which he had tickets.)

Having gone to some NSO stuff at Wolf Trap - it's definitely not that exciting if you're on the lawn. By the time the music's pumped out there via speakers, there's no difference between Wolf Trap and listening on a CD. Live classical music was meant to be heard without the use of speakers.

Green Day was at Wolf Trap last year - that was completely sold out.

How was the crowd for the Bela Fleck concert back on July 10th? I wanted to go but ultimately wasn't able.

Green Day was NOT at Wolf Trap last year, but thanks for playing, anyway!

They did nearly sell out at Nissan Pavilion/Jiffy Lube Live last year, though.

Wolftrap has continued to book crappy B and C list acts from 20-30 years. I used to go to at least a show a month but the quality has really gone down hill.

It's true Wolf Trap doesn't book "A" level acts, but they do have some strong bookings (Alison Krauss, etc.) - but in the end, I looked at the entertainment as secondary to the ambiance - the fact you can bring all the booze and food you want and chill out under the stars.

Everyone seems to behave themselves and access/egress is great, so it's better that each show isn't sold out IMHO.

I was at the Mormon Tabernacle choir concert, and it was "sold out", but that's because everyone who was a mormon in this area was there, and probably was given tickets through their church. Almost everyone had a name tag, and was dressed very conservatively. No half shirts, shorts, or anything. You could tell who wasn't a mormon, we were drinking wine, and not calling people brother. Not a single other concert I've been to so far has filled up the filene center or the lawn. Some of the concerts, they didn't even fill up the lower level, and nobody was in the balcony. The dooby brothers concert was sold out about 40 minutes after they opened up the ticket office the first day the public could get tickets.

I love Wolf Trap.

The fact that you can bring in some wine and cheese makes it even more awesome.

Depends. In 1985 they probably were but not now.

As I look back on it the "A" level acts I saw were Tony Bennett, Tom Jones, River Dance (ten years ago), Dwight Yoakum ("A" level to me and my friends, for those who don't like him he's "Z" level...) and many others I've forgotten.

"A" level acts (Coldplay, Stones, etc.) tend to play the Verizon center in DC, not Wolftrap, which can't attract real "A" level acts because they won't get in the business of charging $100 - $300 for tickets which those acts expect.

Wolf Trap is what it is, just enjoy.

WT books only up and comers, has beens, and those on the downward slide. The Goo Goo Dolls sold out and the sucked. Skynyrd did not sell out, but was a great show.

Wolf Trap seats about 7000 people, 3800 of which is in-house. They have a niche market. They wont get the acts that go to Jiffy Lube or Verizon Center because of the size.

That being said, look at the Go Go's show this year. It drew a respectable 5000 people. Not bad for a group that last time here played the Chili Cook Off and the 930 Club.

Also, look at the schedule for Jiffy Lube. They have 15-20 shows this year? About what they had last year. Wolf trap has an event nearly every night of the season.

And ticket prices at Wolf Trap are usually in the $40 range. That will never happen at Verizon or Jiffy Lube, even for the B level acts.

Had been away from Wolf Trapped ever since the 2004 John Prine concert, which featured a large number of intoxicated liberals in the audience who were jeering for the defeat of Bush. Prine whipped the liberals into a frenzy by using foul-mouhed epithets to describe the President of the United States. The overflow crowd featured row after row of vehicles with their Kerry Edwards bumper stickers.

Returning in 2011 for a near-empty performance of Guys and Dolls, I was completely pleased to see the lawn empty, and I mean empty, the upper deck with zero audience, and the lower deck one quarter full. And they still are booking the anti-American Prine this year.

Wold Trap should go under and be defunded by the US government, and the land sold off for development for private housing. Wold Trap is another victim of the Obama economy, and a parasite living off US tax dollars provided by the productive class (i.e., the evil "rich.") So long Wolf Trap when we have a new administration.

You are a dumb ass. Wolf Trap was donated to the National Park Serive by private funds with the caevate that the NPS manage the facility. All funds from WT go to run WT minus what the performer gets paid.

Hey! He has a political opinion. Do not muddle this with facts.

He saw John Prine there. And Guys & Dolls. I smell an expert on things performing arts.

If he wants to change Wolf Trap to a small arms range and a bowling alley, we must respect that. We can't change it to housing because those damn liberals would insist on afforable homes in the development, and he would bitch about that as well since it would allow the ethnics in.

QUick search (you sound like one of the intoxicated potty-mouthed liberals I was referencing) shows that National Park Service used 6.5 million of our dollars to accomodate intoxicated lefties in 2003-2004. Would appreciate an updated budget. Not one penny for this anymore! Plus, we are wasting the value inherent in land that could be sold at auction to build houses and bowling alleys, much to your delight. They could have beer there, and they could even have high-quality winesat the Wolf Trap Lanes. With our current budget difficulties, this sort of expense is appalling. We have to start somewhere; few things seem as frivolous to the proper operation of government as Wolf Trap.

FY 2004 Annual Budget is $3,277,000

FY 2003 Annual Budget is $3,283,000
