What is the best new restaurant to try?
Posted by: Samantha ()
Date: July 27, 2011 02:42PM

I am taking some friends from out of town to eat. I do not wish to drive to DC.

Price does not matter but I want a place that is fun and different.

Thanks!

If you are in your mid-thirties, of neutral good looks, and, as a group, represent a refreshing, but not uncomfortably diverse cross-section of ethnicities, I would highly recommend Olive Garden.

I love Jaleo in Crystal City. Their food is in my opinion the best of the area and it is never filled with a bunch of teenagers

That's a terrible decision. I've never had a meal there that resembled food. It would be interesting to hear what you think of it after the fact.

Well that's a relief, I was worried her friends were going to have a bad time. Mind you, there's people on here who like Roy Rogers, so who knows.

It's really good. I'm not the hugest Korean-BBQ fan either, but that place is great.

Not sure if it fits your bill, but Sweetgreen opened a location in Ballston about 3 or 4 months ago, and I think it's my favorite new fast/casual joint. Really fresh, healthy salads and wraps. Completely awesome homemade salad dressings (their lime-cilantro-jalapeno dressing is almost drinkable). You'll spend about 10 bucks for a wrap (if you add meat to it), but they set a high-bar in terms of quality and it's worth it.

Second that. If you can get there before 2:30 or 3 pm (can't remember which, sorry) their lunch specials are a great way to try the place out.

I've been to their new location in Centreville. It was excellent! The pork belly was OK - once you got used to it. The regular pork and chicken options were great, though.

Thanks again for the suggestions. We went to Olive Garden on Leesburg Pike. I had the parmesan and pancetta-filled carbonara ravioli with pan-seared chicken in a creamy parmesan sauce. My friends had herb-marinated grilled chicken breasts over capellini in a light, zesty lemon-herb vinaigrette tossed with cherry tomatoes, feta, spinach and olives and parmesan and pancetta-filled carbonara ravioli with sautéed shrimp in a truffle butter sauce. For dessert we had raspberry-swirled white chocolate cheesecake topped with slivers of white chocolate and classic Italian chocolate torta layered with creamy mousse and topped with dark chocolate ganache. It upset my stomach and I noticed my stool was black. I will be back next week to try the grilled beef medallions drizzled with balsamic glaze, served over fettuccine tossed with spinach and gorgonzola-alfredo sauce.

I took the suggestion of going to Brix- the website made it seem very fancy, when I made a reservation someone in a French accent picked up, speaking the French words you hear when eating in a fine dining place. Imagine my surprise when I go and this place is a slightly more upscale Bertuccis! The prices were fair and the gnocci and especially chocolate mousse were good, but I have no idea who the hell picked up the phone, it was all high school students and middle eastern men working at this restaurant. Again it was not a bad experience, but they need take themselves way less seriously! The clientel there did not look like they came from Great Falls, that is for sure.

Im guessing it was the owner. Would've been funnier if it was Darth Vader.

Seasons 52 is great except that they haul out the dessert tray and wave it under your nose at the end of your meal, which I always find annoying. It's not just that I have to summon some self-control and decline - it's more like I feel like the restaurant is trying to squeeze a few extra bucks out of me after what is usually a fairly expensive meal. Kinda ruins my mood.

2941 in Falls CHurch- surprised such a fancy restaurant is in t Falls Church, the service is superb and they will even make things not on the menu if you ask. One time I went I got tour of the kitchen and a free loaf of fresh french bread from the chef. Nowadays even shitty restaurants can charge a lot for terrible service and mediocre food. IMO this is worth the price.
