Richard Griffin Retiring

On Sunday evening Mr. Richard Griffin officially announced to the Administrative Team his retirement from FCPS (21 years) and education (34 years) effective August 31st. Obviously Mr. Griffin has been a true fixture here at WSHS for 21 years in his same role as Assistant Principal. He will be remembered for so many things and very much missed by staff, students, their parents, community members, and many, many more! His contributions to WSHS over his 21 years are too many to list, but his impact on our school and all of its stakeholders will be remembered for years to come! What exciting times he has ahead as he enters his well deserved retirement. First and foremost, he will be able to spend quality time with his two children and two grandsons (10 and 4 years old). He will also be able to sleep in and not get up at 4am so he could leave in time to drive from Fredericksburg to WSHS. (Sidebar—Mr. Griffin's roundtrip is 94.2 miles x 260 day contract x 21 years = 514,332 miles. That total doesn’t include driving to meetings in other buildings, games at other schools, and so forth.). Mr. Griffin says he does not have any immediate plans and how great is that for him because he will be able to truly relax! He will be around during the next 6 weeks (minus a few days here and there) until his official retirement date, so please make sure you stop by to say good-bye. Plans for an official gathering and send off will be coming out in a few weeks—stay tuned.

Thank you, Mr. Griffin for 21 years of service and dedication to West Springfield HS and Fairfax County Public Schools, and 34 years to the Commonwealth of Virginia. You have touched the lives of thousands and thousands of students and their parents, hundreds of staff members, and many more people locally and across the commonwealth during your long tenure in education. Mr. Griffin stated to his current departments in an earlier email, “Keep me in your minds and hearts as I venture down this new road.”

We hope to hire Mr. Griffin's replacement by mid-August.

Sincerely,
Paul A. Wardinski
Principal

He left because of Wardinski and told Failing Paul that he was the worst principal he had ever worked for to his face
