Can anyone recommend a good Toyota dealership in the area? I am looking to buy a used Corolla as a first choice, but other car recs are welcome.

Corollas are incredibly boring, they have soft suspension so they ride well for a small car but they don't handle well.

autotrader.com

buy from a private seller. way cheaper than buying from a dealership. take the corolla to the toyota dealership to do an overall inspection before making the purchase. you will save a ton of money, and wont get suckered into buying shitty warranties.

get your financing from your credit union. penfed and navyfed have awesome rates.

Has anyone gone to Ourisman? They seem very pricey, so I was hoping there was another reputable dealer in the area.

Have you checked Springfield Toyota? The Toyota website should give you a list of dealerships.

Buying a car... maybe.

Servicing a car... stay away.

You might be able to get a better 'deal' on a new vehicle...

That being said, we got our new vehicle from Bill Page Toyota, using a buying service from the credit union.

Good Luck!

This is getting close to the time when cars do their year end closeouts. They are all selling 2012s now, so a 2011 looks like a liability to them.

OTOH, supply for new cars (especially Japanese ones) is low owing to the effects of the tsunami/earthquake. Most every Japanese manufacturer had a total line shutdown or major component shutdown owing to the 'quake.

You might want to wait till October/November when Japan's production is supposed to recover and the model year changeover forces down prices of 2010s and 2011s.

watchout,

I'd say Ourisman is worse at sales than service. When I bought my Tacoma last year they wouldn't even look at me because I was 22 but I had cash in hand. Their service department is great but you always have to schedule an appointment at the Fairfax location.

I would advise going to Koons but unless you are looking for a certified-used car I would look at private party or some of the smaller dealerships in the area.

Leesburg seems really small but the people are nice.

Ourisman is kind of a pain. I'd never buy from them again. High pressure, didn't keep their promises. Bah.

Kay Jennings in Springfield gets good reviews, but I've never bought or had service there.

They are also the vehicle of choice for third-worlders.

If they can afford a Corolla they are doing pretty well- I don't see many illegals in Corollas.

Hint: A Corolla is NOT a luxury car. If you think it is, you are probably a third-worlder.

I would recommend Koons Tysons, surprisingly.

Get in touch with Seneca Wallace. Settle on a price and terms beforehand. Then Go in and get it done, make it easy.

They're really the only one that I found that didn't try to get me caught up in a bunch of BS. I got the price in advance, and the price was good. I went in, test drove and signed the papers with just a bit of negotiation on the trade-in.

Ourisman is full of rag-heads. The place just oozes sleaze. They won't even come out and quote you a price, "We'll work something out" is the best I could get. I told them what I wanted it for, the same price I'd already been offered at Koons. "We'll work it out", the dude said. Then called me the next morning with a "Managers Special" on that same car...that was still more expensive than the price i'd already gotten from Koons.

Bullshit.

Do some research and decide exactly what you want

You can find out what a fair price is

Go into the dealership and say, "ok, you have one shot, give me your best price for and then list the model and option"

do the same thing to 2 or 3 other dealers.

some of them will refuse to give you a quote - get out of there fast! Like the guy said above about them saying "we'll work something out"

don't sit down with them, remain standing and if they screw around or stall, walk out

keep it formal - this is business not a social call

don't answer their personal questions, like where you work, etc

If they give you a price and say something like this is good for today only, that is BS

If they ask you what color you want don't answer. To them that is a "tell" that you have already made a decision and that they are trying to create "visual ownership"

Don't go to the bathroom, to them this is a sign that you have capitulated

Make them give you an "out the door" or "over the curb" price with all their fees and charges included. You can refuse them or negotiate them.

I've walked out on deals where I thought the "dealer processing fee" was too high

Remember this, they need you a lot more than you need them. There are lots of car dealerships. And remember this, there will always be another "deal of a lifetime" probably tomorrow!

Good Luck.

That's the beef I have with the service. The past few times I went, I DID call to schedule an appointment (weekdays, too). I stopped giving them my business because I would call for an appointment for routine service and it would STILL take two hours to perform the work. Those jerkoffs cram as many "appointments" as possible into a time slot. They appear to have a sheet/papers up front with who will be coming in.. so they are organized enough to know how many appointments they have. It's just no one says "Hey.. wait a minute, we have 40 appointments for this evening... isn't that too many?"

How about the truth:

I'm broke, unemployed, and if you sell this car to me it the repo man will bring it back within 6 months.

go buy a car in MD. md has a limit on processing fees due to laws. i went to check out a car in tysons corner, and they wanted 450 processing fee. ha!.

in my opinion, md dealerships are more willing to negotiate than here in nova.

Ourisman Service seeing is believing. Bring in for a 30, 45, 60K serivce and see how much you get dicked. Do not take my word for it. New transmission, new fuel pump, new spark plugs, new compressor, new you name it they will sell it to me.

Can't speak for the rest of their dealerships, but I don't like Ourisman Toyota in Chantilly one bit. Especially their salesman's lousy patronizing attitude, she was some ex-military type with a stick up her ass. Basically told us in so many words: "Fuck you, if you don't buy this car then somebody else will".

ive realized that compared to honda, toyota dealerships are sneeky, dirty playing aholes. sleeze is the nicest word you can find for them.

i had koons lie to my face about a car not available, then 2 days later emails me saying if i can put a deposit, he can get me one like i wanted. When the reality is, i drove one prior to going to him.

i ended up at carmax toyota in laurel,md and purchased my car there for the best price in the area. I e-mailed the koons guy back and said" you lied, i bought elsewhere peace".

just do yourself a favor: go to carmax and get a car.

Bought a 2007 tundra from miller toyota in manassas a couple years back. I had a great experience. Real nice guys, noticed a couple little dings after I purchased and they had no problem fixing them even after even though I already paid and they had no obligation. Tranny went after that rough winter, I called them, they didn't try to beat around any bush or fuck with me, just scheduled me to come in, paid for my rental car, and they covered the 5000 dollars it costed to replace. I give a good thumbs up to them.
