Haven't heard anything. How does one find information on things like this? Also would like to know if there's anything to that rumor about the driver swinging around cars in front waiting to turn left. May be nothing to it but if true, no rider in the world could avoid something of that sort, no matter how careful or how skilled they might be.

Brother of Bones,

One would think that if a driver backed up, went around 2-3 cars in traffic, turned across them causing a "horrbile" accident, someone would have witnessed it.

Odds are good that at least one operator, in that area, at that time, was legit and would assist, call 911, wait for the police, etc.

Your self proclaimed "word on the street" unfairly vilifies the driver.

Any chance Bones and crew were speeding down that stretch? Driving recklessly? Drunk? High?

She might not be charged with anything.

Some people as of late love to drive slow in the passing lane.

Not sure what they are thinking but sometimes I yell out the window.

YOUR LETHARGIC! APATHETIC! COMPLACENT DRIVING IN THE PASSING LANE IS PISSING ME OFF!

Most times they get the hint and let me pass at the posted speed limit.

Usually its a fat tubby driving acting like they do not want the bumps to jiggle
their fat all over...... pretty sad that aftershocks on fat people keep rumbling.

I have no pictures but I'll tell you what I saw. Wife and I went to a friends house for dinner, as did wife's sister and her husband. They live just a few blocks from that intersection.

The in-laws came through that intersection at exactly 7, as they and we both arrived at 7:03. We had come a back way. The in-laws had seen nothing or would've said something. On their deck a bit later, we did see a helicopter hovering overhead and commented on it but thought little of it.

We went home at about midnight, and as we approached the intersection we saw it was brightly lit and police everywhere. Braddock Road was blocked in both directions and we were routed along with everyone else through the shopping center and onto Twinbrook. I originally told my wife I thought it was one of those DWI checkpoints or something. I was unable to get much of a look at the intersection from the parking lot as we were moving and yes, it looked like there were perhaps hundreds of people standing around looking and I had to thread through them. I forgot about it until Monday when I saw the article about it in the Post.

I don't know what could have been going on five hours after the accident that attracted so many gawkers. I presume everything had been removed by then? Maybe just accident investigation. If there was still something to see I'm glad I didn't.

@Harley - give it a few. If she lawyered up, the charges sometimes take a bit, I guess. Took a month to charge the lady what killed the pickup driver on Shirley Gate to get charged. The asswipe that killed the lady at 123 and Henderson, it was like 4-5 months or so before charges got filed there.

Md. woman charged in crash that killed Tyler Cowherd

Published: August 04, 2011
FAIRFAX, Va. --

A Towson, Md., woman was charged Tuesday in connection with a fatal motorcycle crash that killed a Prince William County chief property code inspector on July 16, police said.

Fairfax County police said Tuong Nguyen, 63, was driving a 1997 Lexus sedan west on Braddock Road and tried to turn left onto Twinbrook Road, which is next to the Twinbrook Centre shopping center near Fairfax, when she allegedly hit two motorcycles driving east on Braddock Road around 7 p.m., police said.

William Tyler Cowherd, 44, and a 50-year-old man who were driving the two motorcycles tried to apply the breaks but could not avoid colliding with Nguyen’s Lexus, Fairfax County police said.

Cowherd, of the 4600 block of Medford Drive in Annandale, died a short time later from the crash, police said.

Police said the 50-year-old man, as well as a 44-year-old Annandale-area woman who was a passenger on Cowherd’s bike, were taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital with severe injuries.

They are expected to survive, police said.

Nguyen was charged with failing to yield right of way, Fairfax County police said.

Nguyen was not hurt and stayed at the scene of the crash. She was released on a summons.

Police believe alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash and the motorcyclists were wearing helmets, police said.

Police ask that anyone with information call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS, email at www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org, or text “TIP187” plus your message to 274637 or call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.

UPDATE: Driver Charged in Fatal Crash

Tuong Nguyen, 63, of Towson, MD, was charged with failing to yield right of way on Tuesday, August 3. She was released on a summons.

Fatal Motorcycle Crash in the Springfield Area

West Springfield Police District - Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred on Saturday, July 16, around 7 p.m. at the intersection of Braddock Road and Twinbrook Road. Crash Reconstruction detectives determined a 63-year-old woman from Maryland was operating a 1997 Lexus sedan westbound on Braddock Road when she attempted to turn left on Twinbrook Road.

Two 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycles operated by a 50-year-old Manassas-area man and a 45-year-old Annandale-area man were each traveling eastbound on Braddock Road in the left travel lane. The Lexus turned left in front of the motorcycles. Both men applied their brakes but could not stop in time to avoid the collision. They each struck the passenger-side of the Lexus. The two men and a female passenger on the 45-year-old man’s bike were all transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital.

William Tyler Cowherd, of 4605 Medford Drive in Annandale, died from his injuries a short time later. The 50-year-old man and the 44-year-old Annandale-area woman suffered severe injuries but are expected to survive. The woman driving the Lexus remained onscene and was not injured. All motorcyclists were wearing helmets. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. This investigation is ongoing. This is the 20th fatal crash in Fairfax County this year.

I was the Annandale "female" on the back of Tyler's bike. I was actually his wife. Between the hospital and physical therapy I spent approx 3 months recovering from my injuries. I still have another surgery to go thru as well as other injuries that are recurring. One leg is now shorter than the other so I will walk with a limp for the rest of my life. The other gentleman had 3 surgeries on his leg, the last one just last month.

The lady that pulled in front of us did not have the right of way. She was listening to her GPS when it said "turn left here"...she backed up in the middle of Braddock Road then turned at an angle into the left turn lane but didn't stop, she kept going. The reconstruction of the accident showed our stopping distance as 5 seconds. We were doing the speed limit as well.

I wasn't even able to attend my own husband's funeral.

I, too, am healing but in a different way. I won't get into that here because, all that will do is feed the "sharks". People who really do not understand what it's like to lose a loved one the way you did and experienced.

I am one of many whom Tyler touched from within. I meant, touched in my heart just by his loving and kind way about himself. He always greeted everyone with a smile, hug and "great to see you." Your husband, just like you; had a beautiful heart. And now, you carry his strength within you now.

Stay strong for your daughter, brothers and sisters and family.

What the fuck are you talking about? Virginia is ranked as the 8th safest state to ride in.

There are too many fucking cages on the road, and too many morons that don't know how to operate them. This is what happens when the government hands out driver's licenses to everyone that takes a test. Bikes are perfectly safe - it's the fuckers in cages on their cell phones with the Starbucks in one hand and the cigarette in the other that make roads dangerous.

Survivor: (I guess you're also "woogie")

Thanks very much for posting. I did not know you nor your husband, but was at a friend's home nearby for dinner with some others when we spotted the helicopter and wondered why it was hovering.

As we drove home, the road was blocked at the intersection long after. We were routed around, thinking perhaps it was a alcohol roadblock but then saw the investigation team. It was a couple days before we read about the accident.

I told my friend and we were both quite rattled, having just gotten bikes a couple months earlier, me for the first time in 20 years, he for the first time ever.

He debated with himself whether to tell his wife but finally did. A good thing, because a couple days later she called him from that shopping center to say there was a ceremony going on. He then called to tell me, and I and my wife met them there as the ceremony was in progress.

I'll tell you this: I didn't know you, your husband, or anyone else there, but I've never been more moved in my life. My wife and her friends agreed. It was very powerful. Your husband, and you, have some very devoted people who care about you.

Please be well and live a good life.
