The county is building another underutilized fire station there.

Yeah, underutilized because Fairfax isn't growing or expanding or anything... It's not like the metro won't cause an explosion of people.

Maybe it's a better idea to just sit around and wait for the area to grow and and THEN build a fire station....

Geez, haven't you ever played Sim City??

Fairfax county just figures out how to waste more tax money so we would pay more tax next year.

An empty multi-acre site in Fairfax County? Must develop! Cannot leave empty!

I'm familiar with the area. The station's first due is pretty much already developed. So their won't be an explosive growth in the population. It's mostly zoned at least R-1. As for demographics, the area isn't exactly Bailey's or Rt 1. Check out the annual run stats for the Great Falls and North Point stations. It's going to be the firefighters' that are going to be sitting around there.

The station should be completed sometime during 2013.

On an unrelated note, does anyone know why there's a Beulah Road that runs 123 up to Route 7 through Vienna and the Toll Road, and also a Beulah St. in the SE portion of the county from Franconia Rd down to Telegraph?

How did one guy get two unconnected roads so far apart named after him?

I know who Lee and MLK are, as well as Jackson, but who is Beulah, if these roads are both named after him/her? I was probably not paying attention in history class in HS when they covered this...

Anyone? Anyone? Beulah? Beulah?

So because you didn't hear about anyone named Beulah when you grew up means he wasn't important enough to get a road name?

Who the fuck was Braddock? Sydenstricker? Edsall?

Who really gives a shit if there's a Beulah Road and Beulah Street in the same county. There's hundreds of other examples like this.

Product of FCPS, I assume. Braddock was a colonial era British General who died 20 years before the Revolutionary War was fought. He was an important 'dude' in the French and Indian war. George Washington served under him.

As scary! states Braddock was named after Gen Braddock, the British commander who lead an unsucessful expedition to try to evict the French from Fort Duquesne in 1755, where Pittsburgh now stands. George Washington served on Braddock's staff in the expedition. The Braddock roads in Alexandria and Fairfax supposedly are the road that certain British troops cut through northern Virginia as they moved west from Alexandria.

Edsall Road is named after the Edsall family who owned land in the eastern part of Fairfax County. There was a railroad stop located on the family property, hence the road.

I am fairly certain Sydenstricker was named after another family that lived in the Burke-Springfield area.

Ok I thin we've established that road names tend to have local origins.

Happy?

I'm just hoping (assuming?) he was trolling. Otherwise, good grief.

Edward Braddock was George Mason's roommate and half brother. Their father was George Jefferson, brother of Thomas. Both were bastard children raised by their mothers. Braddock's only full brother was Benjamin Braddock, and Mason had a sister Marsha.

Together they founded George Mason University in the late 1800's, after they flipped a coin to determine who they would name the school after. Unable to drive their Hummer easily to the school from the Beltway, they decided to build a road to the school. Since the school was already named after Mason, they decided to name the road after Braddock.

Braddock died in a pedestrian accident on the road, after which George erected one of those little white crosses at the intersection of 123 & Braddock Road.
