Radar detector install near Reston/Tysons

A friend wants to install a hidden radard detector in his car. He bought the unit, just needs to have a shop do the install. Anyone have a good shop recommendation to do the install? Would prefer somewhere close to Reston/Herndon/Sterling/Tysons. Thanks.

a radar detector emmits a high-frequency radio wave of it's own. if he turns it on the cops will know. and if it's hard-wired in, plan on him losing the car until they remove it.

does it sound worth it to you? how about he just slow his ass down?

Installing it hidden is only part of the picture. You need to be able to kill the power to it easily.
Radar detectors can be scanned for if the microwave bell is powered up.

Been a while. If I'm right; it's not illegal to have a radar detector in Va, just illegal to use one.

Stop talking out your ass. There is no law that would allow police to confiscate the vehicle.

VA and DC, the only pathetic places that ban radar detectors.

Too many cars around here.. constant traffic... the cops wouldn't be able to single out a car.

One can detect a radar detector unit with a VG-1/VG-2 interceptor , or a Spectre III/IV.. ( va state police use the Spectre ). Most high end detectors are only detectable from a fairly close range making the RDD useless if you pay attention and can shut it down when you are getting lit up.

The Spectre does not really give a direction of the signal , just a strength/proximity meter.

While it is true, they are no longer required to confiscate your device, the wording of the law is vague and I'm sure an officer can take it from you for some kind of "evidence" , but you will get it back in court.

Happy Motoring..

I know a guy who keeps his fancy Beltronics radar detector plugged in and on the passenger side floorboard. He swears it works just as good as on the dash, and from what I've seen, he appears to be right.

Radar detectors are useless, they use lidar, not radar. Also, it's much easier if you just obey the law and stay in the flow of traffic.

WothlessPost, you are incorrect.
Although many of the LE agencies in this area use LIDAR, It is by far not the leading tool for speed detection. Fairfax county uses both LIDAR and RADAR, state police still use almost explicitly RADAR.

Besides the big cost difference, We all like to be lazy at work and police are no exception, to use LIDAR the officer has to actively aim the gun, with a radar gun ( even with instant-on or POP mode) they can just point the cruiser in the direction of traffic and fill out paper work all night

Shit, if you think its bad here, in Europe, the police are crazy about radar guns and radar detector detectors. Its a big business over there.

And no doubt that the Admiral may be correct,
