Hispanics warming up their cars

There's at least 4-5 spanish families in my neighborhood, and almost all of them come out and turn their car on and let it idle for 10 to 20 minutes before they leave - to warm up i'm guessing. I can somewhat see this in the winter, but it's the dead of summer, and it was 81 this morning. their windows are open, so it's not like they're letting the car cool down. Anyone have a clue?

Ever wonder why the airline pilot warms up the engines before taking off? An engine is designed to operate at a certain temperature with the motor oil at the proper viscosity. Otherwise you wear your engine out. Your latino neighbors know how to maintain a car.

Do you check your oil and radiator?

Unlike your typical stupid honkey I warm my car up every time I drive.

They are warming up a can of beans, so it will be hot when they get to 7/11 for their job search.

They are used to warm up cars because most of them drive - or used to drive - shitty old pieces of crap that wouldn't drive otherwise. Modern cars with properly working fuel injection don't require warming, modern oils provide sufficient lubrication at any temp, and - most importantly - your engine warms up much faster while driving, so unless you rev it up to 7,000 RPM the very next second after start up, your engine will do better w/o 10 mins idling.

You don't warm a car up by putting it under load, that generates wear. You also forgot to mention the oil has to get pumped up to the lifters. You forgot to mention the water.

Move to CA and leave hispanics alone.

Engine oil analysis studies have showing that idling the car to warm it up causes excessive fuel dilution, which actually results in more wear than if it's just driven gently to warm it up.

Water? Idling the car to warm it up also puts excessive water into the oil.

Lifters? They are pumped up the second the engine starts. If they aren't, you'll hear it.

Idling the car for 10-20 minutes is a waste of gas and not necessary.

Newer cars do not need to be warmed up. The can be driven almost imediately after starting without causing damage. Warming up under load has been shown to be better than letting it idle. They also don't need to be "broken in" like they use to as tolerances are much tighter. In addition, they last long beyond the old 100k standard of years past. If you had a car built within the last ten years and have read its owners manual you would know this.

I agree that they are just use to older cars/ways.

I would say that anything that is fuel-injected does not need to be warmed up.

AC cools down a lot faster with the car moving than it does at idle.

I am guessing that the OP is a flipping idiot. Probably is a loser, and probably has more issues than his yamaka can handle.

Shalom and Mazol tov!

Just wondering: Do jewish people drink he-brew?

These persons are helping warm the planet on behalf of their friends and family that use environmentally friendly transportation options (most notably purple Huffy mountain bikes and Merry Maids cars filled to capacity).
