Bank Robbery in Merrifield Area

McLean Police District – Police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred Monday, June 27. Around 2 p.m. two men entered the BB&T Bank at 8416 Arlington Boulevard. One suspect displayed a gun and demanded money. Both suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. There were no injuries.

One of the suspects has been identified as 38-year-old William L. Cole, of Fort Washington, Maryland. Cole has been arrested by Prince George’s County Police and awaits extradition to Fairfax County.

The second suspect was described as black, medium build and wearing a light colored shirt with blue jeans. He may have dreadlocks or may have been wearing a wig.

Fairfax County police have identified one of the two men who held up a Merrifield bank on Monday.

William L. Cole, 38, of Fort Washington, Md. was arrested by Prince George’s County police and has been identified as one the men wanted for Monday’s bank robbery. Cole is awaiting extradition back to Fairfax County, police said.

A second man, black with a medium build and wearing a light colored shirt and blue jeans, is still on the lam. County police said the man may have dreadlocks or may have been wearing a wig at the time of the robbery.

The two men walked into the BB&T Bank at 8416 Arlington Blvd. at about 2 p.m. Monday, displayed guns and demanded money, police said. The two men fled with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was injured.

No idea if this is true, but I heard once that certain banks that don't allow their employees to be armed are significantly more likely to be robbed. No idea what BB&T's policy is on this, but would be interesting to find out.

Anyway, the way to rob a bank these days is to just stop paying your mortgage and squat for a year...

I don't see how they possibly could have displayed guns, the sign on the bank's door says no guns. Must be some mistake in the reporting.
