Army Finance MOS

Im thinking about joining the Army Resrves and doing a finance mos. Any thoughs? what can I possibly expect going in at a low rank? I want to come back after ait and get a degree in Finance management down the road while serving in reserves. Eventually I want to end up working for a bank or in finance department for some company, basically just a 9-5 with a good pay for the future. Anyone done a similar job or the same job in the Army? btw I would be stationed out of Belvoir unless deployed

The Army background would be a great help. Also recommend that you take classes
at night throuout your entire hitch. (The GI Bill is good but not perfect).
If you expect a 9-5 job after getting a degree, maybe you should reconsider
finance. I worked in financial institutions for 30 years and the only ones
who work 40 hour weeks are low level clerical staff. If you are hired as a
financial analyst, etc. they will expect you to produce much more. Just before
I retired, I had two cell phones and a pager. Weekend work was the norm and I
had something to bring home everynight. The attorney's averaged about 80 hours
per week, financial professionals about the same, and bank examiners, probably
80-90 hours per week. BTW, at that level there is no over-time pay. Holidays?,
sometimes. The pay can be very rewarding though as most of those jobs are in the
GS-12-15 category. Travel? Get used to living in an airport at times.
If you want a 9-5 job with no expectations, I'd recommend starting out as
a bank teller.

Don't.

To be kicking in doors in Ramadi.

The only finances you will be worrying about are your own.

You will be disabled, living off of Uncle Sam.

Yes. They are all in Iraq right now.

"unless?"

My word of advice to you is join the Reserves with the understanding that you WILL be deployed and you WILL fight for your country. You are nuts if you think your education will even be a consideration. There is nothing wrong with joining the military. But people who join thinking it has great financial benefits or it will result in some pocket money for school without you going overseas and fighting is just being naive.

Good advice on the above reply. The military has changed a lot since I was in
and it looks like even the cooks, bakers, and candle-stick makers are performing
their most basic MOS now. 11B10 (Light Weapons Infantry). This is not a fun
war.

Know some folks who joined the reserves for medic training - as soon as basic was over their MOS magically got changed to infantry and were shipped to Baghdad inside of a month.
