Fairfax County Camaro Cop (updated: new picture)
Posted by: Cary ()
Date: April 07, 2005 03:34PM

Wow. I've seen these undercover camaros on 66 the past couple of years, but never expected to see one cruising around Fairfax City. I ran into him going east on 50 just before Jermantown Rd. He went left at the 29/50/236 intersection towards 123.
Anyway, this is a really crappy picture as you can tell (stupid cell phone cameras), but I decided to post it anyway because we already have BMW and Eclipse cop cars in the gallery.
Rumor has it Fairfax county has everything from undercover F-150's to a cherry picker! Keep those cameras by your side, I want proof!
I gave the cop a thumbs up and he smiled and gave me one back. Tried to get him with the thumbs up in the picture but he turned away before I hit the button.

Silver Z28. Looked and sounded completely stock. Probably has a bigger radiator for high-speed chases. (the crown vics do)

edit: Someone recently uploaded a MUCH better picture of a marked Fairfax County Camaro police cruiser. I'm envious of the officer that gets to drive that around for a living:

Camaros are weak.

Down here in Harrisonburg the popo has some undercover WRX's and white Subaru station wagons. Its crazy because they have strobe lights hidden in their head/tail lights. The only way you can tell its a cop is by what the driver is wearing.

Cary, I've seen that Camaro, I thought it was pretty funny for a cop to be tooling around in a redneck-mobile.

Word of warning - if you see an unmarked white Ford dooly on the side of 28, that's (I believe) state or airport police taking radar. One cop sits up front, and one homo sits in the back with the gun.

I spotted the Fairfax Camaro (gold) just the other day. Made me think of this thread. I get on 66 at the HOV entrance on Monument, and every other day there are these bike cops hanging out on the on ramp looking for HOV violations. On monday they had the camaro out too. Trouble is, those guys don't even look when they pull out to tag somebody. We nearly t-boned one of them the other day.

Fairfax County has a new F-350 as well. Bright flipping red with a red cap on the back, diesel engine, 4x4. Just fair warning.

Ive seen the silver camaro at Embassy getting washed. They also have a maroon one with tinted windows always on the parkway around 66 and 29 exits. On 66 at monument i saw a Blue mustang GT with two troopers in it with a guy pulled over, blue lights in the window, they were having fun.

Ok, what is the name of the street that leads into the Mantua neighborhood off of Main Street Fairfax? That's called "Prince William Dr," isn't it?

There's a cop that lives down there and as of last year (I've left for college) he had a Camaro that was painted just like the Fairfax Crown Vics. You know the ones....blue with the stripe and a massive badge on the side.

Any Woodson kids able to verify this?

And yes, I have seen both Camaros and Mustangs pulling people over on the beltway near 50 and 66. Usually the policing on the beltway is nothing.

i went to woodson, now go to mason. i live in mantua and yes i know of the cop that lives on prince william. he has had everything in his driveway from crown vics (marked and undercover), f-150s, camaros (marked and undercover), motorcycles, etc...i believe that the county has two marked camaros and two undercover camaros (maroon and silver).

also, as a heads up, the county does speed traps with their camaros and motorcycle squads atleast once a month between george mason and burke station road from a somewhat hidden side road.

Don't they set traps where they can generate the most income? If everyone were smart enough to slow down for a few days, wouldn't they move on to a different location? Better yet, wouldn't they spend their precious time catching the real criminals instead of attempting to generate county income?

Yeah, nothing happens on Braddock Rd but some speeding. They should spend some time in Hybla Valley or some other places in this county where they could use some cops.

Someone needs to go down Prince William Drive and get some pictures of that pig with the marked Camaro. I can't believe I never did.

I can't believe thst in this day and age you IDIOTS don't realie that STREET COPS in cruisers answer calls for runaway children, missing adults, accidents, suicides, etc.....and THEN work traffic assignments (IE: tickets, red lights, accidents, alarms calls, etc... Motorcycle Cops ONLY work traffic assignments and funeral escorts and don't answer any other calls....their ONLY job) and the INVESTIGATORS/DETECTIVES do the "real criminals." ANd in this day and age for you to be calling police officers PIGS is DISGUSTING. I hope you never have the need for one in your lifetime you MORONS.

Well I think I used the term "pig" in its least pejorative form. Almost affectionate, in fact.

That's funny, because it's always been uniformed police officers that have caused me any trouble.

And those times that I needed them? I have a very specific memory of being reprimanded while calling 911 for not knowing exactly where I was at the time. Well that's right, of course I "should know which block I'm on before I call"....it's not like six guys explicitly threatening my life should distract me from that sort of thing. Admittedly, that was a dispatcher and not necessarily a police officer.

But how long did it take them to show up? They didn't, despite the fact the station was less than a mile away. Some bouncers ran out of a bar and saved me.

What had I done to aggrevate these guys? Oh, nothing. I just wanted to know why they hit and ran.

I drove to the police station half an hour later and was told that if I wanted a police report I would have to pay for it and come back tomorrow. Those french fries they were eating looked nice.

rstidman,
Ugh... I know far to well about police power trips. I also have been in close proximity to them as they discuss deplorable things they do with my former supervisor. One of them was about ready to deck me because he was startled by a CDR i threw about 6 feet and bounced off the wall onto my office desk. Power trip and a half. If he was any angrier, controling, and egotistical, I swear it was going to rain fiery meteors outside.

red,
I would like to point out that this is what they say they do: http://www.co.fairfax.va.us/ps/police/reports/news.htm Yet, there is no mention of the thousands of dollars they are gathering each and every day. There aren't even statistics on that site for it. No mention whatsoever. Why not? Simply because it would make everything else look minuscule. If you have ever seen how much they order at delis and dunkin donuts, you would understand the term pig quite well. In the meantime you should go play frogger on 495.

As for everyone else, stay out of Hybla Valley. I swear it's like every fifth entry that is from there. Can't we just use MOAB on that place?

Yeah, I like it when we get into domestic/import feuds.

First: Harrisonburg is weak. I visited some friends there and spent the time wishing it was Charlottesville.

Second: 350 cubic inches is far from weak.

When my friends are too drunk to drive their Subarus I've stepped in and been thoroughly unimpressed with the WRX. Pressing the pedal means it should go fast....now! Waiting on a turbine isn't what a cop wants to do on Rt 66.

According to the wife, she saw a metallic blue mustang with someone pulled over. Not the most recent body style. Not sure how old though as I was not there. The windows were tinted very dark and the flashing lights were mounted high on the front windshield and rear window. From the how she described his uniform (yes, he was in full uniform), it sounded like a state trooper. On route 50, really close to west ox. Thats all I got.

Smiking a bowl probably just won't cut it. He needs to be put on a regimen of valium and vicodan, and then, just then, maybe, he'll lighten up.

Only certain people see the light after smoking a bowl :)

You all have no idea what you are talking about. I happen to know these Police Officers work very hard. Maybe if more people obey the laws they wouldn't have to be out there writing as many tickets and enforsing the laws. They have a very difficult job and are shown very little respect for what they do. Calling them names and showing disrespect shows how immature you are. I strongly recommend that you stay away from the Mantua house and not bother the Officer that lives there. If you obey the laws in Fairfax they will not bother you. These men and women work very hard and deserve your respect for what they do.
I am a firm supporter of all the Police, Fire Dept and Military personel, they deserve to be treated with respect. All of you grow up!!!!!!

The running theme is that if the laws were reasonable, people would obey them.

You really can't tell me to respect the police until you actually have to deal with them. I've been

1) stopped walking through Fairfax because I "matched a description" and had my ID run while the officer lectured me
2) had an officer refuse to give me his badge number after he was harassing a group of friends of mine
3) had an off-duty officer pull up to my friends and I one weekend night/morning and begin screaming and cursing while we were minding our own business
4) had an officer refuse to tell me how to properly deal with and document a "fix-it" ticket for presentation in court, AFTER he issued it to me
5) had an officer lie in court to get me convicted of a traffic offense that could have resulted in fine/suspended license/jail time. You can read about that one elsewhere on this forum.

That accounts for 5 out of 7 times I've dealt with police officers.

The nice officers include

1) The gentleman that I flagged down after I got rear ended in traffic on Rt. 28 and the lady didn't want to give me her insurance information.
2) The gentleman that pulled me over on my way to work when I didn't have my license, gave me a warning, then ACTUALLY LISTENED when I told him that he could in fact NOT search my car.

That last one earned a lot of brownie points, but like everyone else, the police have to earn respect. They sure haven't earned it from me.

That guy nailed me pretty bad once. To top it off, the guy with the gun ran into the street and I almost accidentally hit him.

I too was so traumatized by Sept. 11th, that i've already sent a certified letter to "the man" letting him know that I've abdicated all of my rights as a human being, and as a citizen.

and I, too, have found great comfort in putting all uniformed service people up on a pedestal above the rest of society.

And I feel much safer now. It's a false sense of security, but I can live with that, considering it was a false sense of doom they perpetrated on us anyway. :)

The FFX county Camaro has an LS1 engine in it. I was pulled over by it. that engine produces about 400 hp 415 foot lbs Tq, dont test it, unless of course your driving a dodge viper. They do have an f 150 and a bluish colored mustang, I've also seen a camry.

You dont get it do you. You were probobly pulled over and talked to because you were doing something wrong, oh maybe like speeding. The officer didn't pull you over because you didn't have a licence he probobly pulled you over couse you were speeding and found out you didn't have your licence. And are you a complete idiot. You NEVER tell a cop that he cant search your car because that is like hanging a sign out your door saying you have something in there that is illiegal. If he asked to search your car you say yes and suck it up. And the lays are reasonable stupid. Lets name a few. Obey the speed limit, put on your seat belt, drive safely (no reckless driving), and so many more. Your just and stupid idiot who doesn't know how to drive. Just like half the people out there. And if a cop stops you couse you look like a convict then show your stupid ID and get on with it. Another thing, maybe in court you were the one who lied to try and get out of it and the cop was simply telling what he saw and knows. Maybe if all of you idiots who complain who fallow the laws, drive safely, and obey the officers who wouldn't get pulled over so many times stupid idiot.

I'm too lazy to figure out how to attach pictures, but I've got a GIS link for those of you who care. I saw someone pulled over by a 1997-2001ish Chevy Malibu on I-66 this morning, right at the Poplar Tree HOV exit. It was dark green and looked like this without the tint:

I saw it yesterday with an unmarked cruiser pulled off of 50 W in the trees near the 7100 exit. It looked like they were walking into traffic and pulling people over.

It's a snappy looking car.

Alright, I'm going to throw dignity to the wind and quote a Jay-Z song here.

The year is '94 and in my trunk is raw
In my rear view mirror is the mother fuckin law
I got two choices yall pull over the car or
Bounce on the devil put the pedal to the floor

Now i ain't tryin to see no highway chase with jake
Plus i got a few dollars i can fight the case
So i...pull over to the side of the road
And i heard "Son do you know why i'm stoppin you for?"

Cause i'm young and i'm black and my hats real low
Do i look like a mind reader sir, i don't know
Am i under arrest or should i guess some mo?
"Well you was doin fifty five in a fifty four"

"License, registration and step out of the car"
"Are you carryin a weapon on you i know alot of you are"
I ain't steppin out of shit all my papers legit
"Do you mind if i look round the car a little bit?"

Well my glove compartment is locked so is the trunk and the back
And i know my rights so you gon' need a warrant for that
"Aren't you sharp as a tack are some type of lawyer or something?"
"Or somebody important or somethin?"

Nah i ain't pass the bar but i know a little bit
Enough that you won't illegally search my shit
"Well see how smart you are when the K-9's come"
I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one

Jay-Z, 99 Problems

This ran in the Washington Post: Monday, April 26, 2004

-------------------------------------------------

Georgetown, D.C.: (submitting Sunday afternoon): I was driving on the GW Parkway near Reagan Airport today. During the trip, an unmarked car (green Chevy Malibu, I think) with D.C. tags briefly hit his siren and lights to move me out of his way. Thanks to congestion, I caught up to the LEO on the Memorial bridge and followed him on Rock Creek Parkway for a while -- he certainly didn't seem to be going off to an emergency situation. He just wanted to go 5 mph faster up the GW Parkway.

I don't know which part of this incident was more galling:

(1) The sense of entitlement that law enforcement feels to flout traffic laws and claim special privileges, or

(2) The ridiculously low speed limit on the Parkway near Reagan. The speed limit there is 40. Along with everyone else, I was at least 15 mph over that. The only time this limit is enforced is when traffic volume is light enough that the Park Police can single out individual cars and pull them over.

So which one should I be more upset about?

Ron Shaffer: The key for me was whether the unmarked car was flashing a blue light. That is reserved for police. Let's just say they were on duty, and let it go...

-------------------------------------------------

My understanding is that these Malibus are used only for HOV violations in Fairfax County. I have a memory of reading about it in some Fairfax County law enforcement report. It was a PDF file on the internet I believe.

In other words, that fellow driver from WPost was driving in the left lane slower than the car behind him and yet he only moved to the right only after the cop flashed the lights? This is what that guy should be upset - he still doesn't understand the "Slower traffic keep right" rule.

Stupid 40 mph speed limits and "special privileges" sick too, though.

I highly doubt this was a Fairfax County vehicle Mateo. Why would a Fairfax County cruiser have DC license plates? I think it's more likely it was either DC Police or any one of the plethora of federal agencies based in DC. But hey, when has common sense ever prevailed on this website?

you people all seriously need to get a life and just grow up. if you obeyed the law they'll leave you alone. they dont go hunting for targets for tickets. Motorcycle cops do a lot more than funeral possessions and traffic work.

It frankly doesn't matter what kind of engine is under the hood of a cop car, the second they radio that shit in, it's over. If you can outrun their camaro/crown vic (keep in mind they are trained for high speed pursuits) you still have to worry about the eye in the sky (chopper) with a spotlight and probably infrared imaging to track your car and your ass when you bail out and run. Then you get felony evading and resisting and a bunch of pissed off cops. And if you even tap one cop car during a pursuit it's considered assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer. Not a lot of upside there. Maybe they'll drag race you though in the camaro then pull you over afterwards.

That was some original material, chris. Let's examine how you're home alone posting to a message board you don't even seem to enjoy at 4:00 AM, presumably with no woman on your horizon to climb into bed with, and I think we'll discover the real "bitch" here.

I mean, what kind of bitch sits there at 4AM doing something they clearly don't enjoy (not that I get the impression you enjoy anything at all, you joyless fuck).

We can assume you were drunk as you typed, but you're pretty bad at being a drunk so maybe you need to put down the bottle and go to a meeting. Your name is Chris, and you are an alcoholic.

I HEARD THE POLICE HAVE THIS NEW TECHNOLOGY WHERE THEY CAN MAKE THEIR CARS TOTALLY INVISIBLE... That way they can catch people who speed that much easier. All of you posting pictures of and talking about different police vehicles are wasting your time. If you speed enough the police are gonna catch you, whether they have an unmarked Toyota Camry or a marked Crown Vic. Just don't speed so much and follow the traffic laws more and you don't have to worry about what the cop is driving. If I didn't say so, there would be some idiot out there spreading the rumor that the police really do have invisible cars! So let me say it, it is just a joke. The police really don't have that technology. YET! You all crack me up!

There's a reason why cops asked if they can search a car... Because if you say yes, it a lot easier in court for them. If you say no then there is a possibility that a good lawyer will get what ever is found in the car thrown out of evidence! You are giving up your rights when you say yes. And yes, for you TV lawyers there is a clause called reasonable cause but the cop has to prove that in court.

NEVER SAY YES THEY CAN SEARCH YOUR CAR!

Made all the jerks in front of me jam on thier breaks as they went past and caused a major slow down traffic jam.

As for the tax dollars generated from tickets, the majority of it goes to the school board. Check the county website/budget.
