Last month, a student at Robert E. Lee passed away. We were friends when he was younger but unfortunately I was out of town during his funeral. His name was Abraham Yacob and all I've heard is that it was a suicide. Does anybody know if this is true and if so what happened?

MileStat.com has tragic news to reveal. Robert E. Lee senior and All-State cross country Abraham Yacob passed away this past weekend.

Yacob had a great close to his cross country season in the fall with an All-State 6th place finish in the Group AAA race and ended with a 15:35 5K PR run at Foot Locker South. Yacob's last race was at the East Coast Invitational in late January with a runner-up finish in the 1600 meter run.

Many of his notable friendly rivals in the Patriot District and Northern Region including Ahmed Bile, Sean McGorty, and others over the last four years as well as runners from all over the state shared their condolences and messages expressing great sadness on Yacob's facebook wall on Sunday evening as news of his unfortunate death spread.

Please feel free to share your favorite memories of Yacob as well as condolences and support for his grieving family.

Someone who goes to Lee told me that this kid had a lot of problems and all of it just added up and, yeah. His mom left to go to Germany and never came back, so he lived with his aunt and uncle here and supposedly they were assholes to him, I'm not sure what else.

Where was his dad?

Or was he just the sperm donor?

That they are not alone

These threads can also be a place for friends to mourn and give each other comfort.

This is an open forum. Meaning people can come and mourn (or "morn" as you'd spell it you cock goblin) and exchange words of comfort if they chose. However the prior RIP threads have proven time and again that this is not the place typically used for that. (GO ahead, mourn online! MOURN!) If you're going online to look for peace and comfort, you're a tool.

This RIP thread isn't even in the Top 10 hall of fame of Epic RIP Threads either.

Sixth in the Commonwealth is quite an accomplishment, particularly coming from a background without typical suburban niceties. Certainly we should not measure young people solely by the quality of their athletic accomplishments, but cross country is a demanding sport generally requiring more guts than talent (a common lament of talented track runners with real speed is that cross country is oh so difficult and that they cannot wait for track season to start). It certainly speaks well of him to have achieved this much.

The strange thing is that of the thousands of kids who run in the Commonwealth most all of them think that life would be great if they were All-State. This is a sad reminder that happiness can only come from one's self.

I saw this kid at the state cross country meet. He looked like a vulnerable kid and yet earned everyone's respect. Lee is not exactly a cross country powerhouse, and he wasn't the typical kid whose parents sent him to cross country camp to pile in the miles over the summer.

I am not sure I get the foolish comments above. This was a mentally tough kid who came here from one of the world's worst places. For whatever reason, he couldn't handle things. I understand this is FU - so foolishness is de rigeur and frankly sometimes pretty funny - but I wonder whether many people are hanging on a thread that is far thinner than they let on.

He seemed so fucking happy, I never thought in a million years he would take his life as well as a part of mine. He was not gay. He had a beautiful girlfriend whos life is now forever changed.
