Privacy policy announced

To quell any fears you may have I just created a "privacy policy" which outlines your privacy on this board. I am not a lawyer, so don't expect anything super fancy. A "privacy" link should appear on the main navigation bar at the top of the screen (you may have to reload). If not, you can find a link here:

Questions? Comments? Any lawyers that think I should add/change something? Hit reply and let me know.
Thanks.

Cary, why did you reveal personal information about the NIH employee in violation of your own privacy policy?

Oh, pleeeeze! Is that all? He mentioned one of the 30,000 employees at NIH posted a message here? Don't you think the IG at NIH has better things to do than to track down an anonymous NIH poster and fire him/her?

Granted, Cary probably should have said that the person was a government employee and not identify NIH, but still... you guys are carrying on about nothing. Get a fucking life.

In spirit, he probably did. Legally, probably no. What are you gonna do. Sue?

Speaking of which, you seem to be awfully upset about this. Do you happen to work at the NIH?

There's no denying that cary made a policy that he violated. It doesn't matter if the IG and NIH is going to pick it up or not. The policy clearly states:

"Your privacy is extremely important. As such:

No information obtained through this site will ever be sold or passed on in any way.

No information concerning the identity of a poster/viewer will ever be provided to an individual or organization. ..."

By reporting that that poster had some affiliation with NIH is a clear violation of the policy. It's shady and for anyone to try to defend it is ludicrous. It's a slippery slope there, folks. If he is willing to give that info this time, what happens the next time you post something that cary doesn't like?

Hey, Cary. What's Hypocrisy Sniffer's IP address? Maybe if you give it out he will go away.

Thanks.

Free Speech != Free Ranting
Person's Name = Identity
Person's Employment != Identity

Is that easy enough for you Sniffer? (!=, not equal to)

Johnny, read the policy that was put in place. "NO INFORMATION obtained through this site will EVER be sold or PASSED in ANY WAY". I did not say that he gave the person's name, but by giving where they are connected when making posts is giving some information and passing it to others. Cary knew what he was doing by stating that it was a federal government facility and that if someone at NIH lurked here and got a bug up their ass, they could pass this along and find the person who would be in violation of acceptable use by Uncle Sam.

If I have offended you in some way Johnny, it was unintentional. My issue is with cary, not you, and the hypocrisy in his privacy policy.

Perhaps not as dishonorable as the scam being run by the dude with the d.c. media site(asking for money when he gives minimal effort) but still just sayin'

don't conduct your family and other business or financial transactions on same computer unless you expect prying eyes

interesting story on CBS news with Scott Pelley on Thursday night with a computer security expert. We are way more vulnerable than even I thought from attacks from the Red Asians or Persia

I know its a pain but maybe back up stuff by printing it out on paper. I know you shouldn't have gotten rid of all those filing cabinets. Or back up everything on a disc stored in separate location might work too. And stocking up food, water and gas just in case someone shut down the electrical grid in your area. Methinks them electrical plants should maintain an old school back up system just in case computers get successfully attack. Yeah that just might be expensive but maybe stockholders could do with a little less for a while for the sake of the country? But these days I doubt it.
