Teepee on Franconia Road?
Posted by: Chief Lazy Eagle ()
Date: May 14, 2011 03:37PM

What's the deal with the teepee I can see on Franconia Road? I've driving by on Van Dorn, noticed it a few times, but never really bothered to turn onto Franconia Road to see what it is.

Who has the skinny on it?

Is it a trading post? Can I get some smokes or gambling there?

Whatever it is, isn't a long house a bit more appropriate? This ain't the Plains... teepees are a western thing.

They sell plants. The teepee is just for fun. The kids like it. I wish I had a picture. I'll get one next time I'm there.

Further east on Franconia Road is a 10 or so foot tall pink flamingo on someone's yard front yard.

They must not have a homeowners association.

Seriously-what is this all about? ( A gigantic large pink flamingo on literally a post-in someone front yard.) I saw this today along with my daughter-laughing our asses off.

Is this some kind of "proud to be mexican thing"?, given the mexican popululation-in the North Springfield-Franconia and Rose Hill area.

Or is this to indicate and I do mean indicate- the home of swingers?

At any rate, you sure as hell can't miss it driving on Franconia Rd-as it stands a good 12-15 feet.

I like the flamingo. It sticks a finger in the eye of all the stick up the ass people who demand homes all be exactly alike. I am sure some old fart with an attitude has called the county on it by now. Like Ashburn where every home looks exactly alike.

Hilarious. Ffx county is such a small place sometimes I know whose house that is.

The flamingo has been watching over the yard for twenty plus years.

Know this homeowner? Do you know why they have this huge-stand out flamingo in their front yard?

I say rumor because this is what I heard from a friend that works with the country code enforcement office. I'm sure someone could verify but legend has it the pink flamingo homeowner wanted to make an addition to his home. One that required approval from his neighbors due to the size. The neighbor on the left of the flamingo said no. The county told the homeowner that in order to proceed the addition would have to stay within x feet of his home and no taller than x feet. So the homeowner put up the gigantic flamingo that conformed to the county regulations just to piss off his neighbor for saying no to the addition. I believe the addition a screened in porch was instead put on the right side of the home. Again this could be false but it makes for a great story anyway.

Additions to homes DO NOT require approval of neighboring property owners. You submit your plans to the County and they...and they alone...decide on whether or not something meets code and either approve or reject the plans.

They might if there is any noise associated with it. Our neighbors needed us to sign off on a county form when they were building their pool.

Hey, it's two black late model Cadillacs in the driveway! House is definitely inhabited by nig nogs.

There used to be more flamingos in the back yard. Not sure if they're still there or not. The house also has several pink trash cans / recycle bins (not to mention the shed covered in old license plates and a very cool looking antique ambulance - may not be there anymore??). If I recall there was originally a pink flamingo in the same yard that was not near as high in the air as the current one. It was stolen and for some time after there was a sign in the front yard asking for it's return. Then the current one appeared. I always assumed it was put high up on the pole to make it more difficult to take.

If you are applying for a variance then you DO need approval of adjacent property owners. They are notified in the mail of the public hearing. If they don't show up to disapprove then you're good to go....

The reality is the flamingos belonged to the older couple before the ones living there.
