Fair Oaks Mall owner given permission to increase square footage

Maybe I was in a fog reading this but did the Fairfax Co. Board of Supervisors recently pass something that allows the owner of Fair Oaks Mall to increase buildable area from the current 1.5 million sq. feet to 4-5 million sq. feet. Frankly, that seems like an outrageous increase if thats the case. So we get improvements to the roads and the board turns around and allows incredible increase like that which will overwhelm any road improvements.
I hope this ain't the case?

Reason #34972 for me not to go anywhere near there.

Where the fuck would they put it? Unless they dig down in the parking lot, make subgrade parking and then build up.

Boy, that stupid four lane mini-beltway sure wouldn't get fucked up by that would it?

Tysons added layers, I guess that's what Fair Oaks is planning on doing. God that area will be a complete cluster fuck around Christmas.

Fair Oaks has been half empty space for the last decade.

Try this one for a more recent reference. Looks like the hearing took place this past week.

That J Crew location is bullshit. It's a women's only store.

Online ordering is the best thing ever! No spending money on gas. Saves time. Time is money. I order 6 or 7 pairs of shoes, try them on and then send the ones I don't want back. I do the same thing with everything. It's like shopping in my house. Plus I don't have to wait for dressing rooms and take off my clothes in an undersized room with florescent lighting (ugh). All you need is a credit card with a good limit on it (I pay mine off every month anyway). You don't end up paying more because you save time and gas money. You can actually talk to people on the phone or over the chat lines (how often do they really help you in stores anymore anyway?).

I love coupon cabin.com They always have the online store codes for money off or free shipping. It is a great legit site.

I love to shop online but I try and not pay for shipping.

Zapos too is great for online.

thanks justataxpayer
What a pack of bullshit so it looks like the mall could expand to nearly 5 million if the subway gets extended out that way or 4 million if some rapid transit improvements come on along that route

hey who pays for all these road and transit improvements and who benefits from the density increase but the company that owns the property plus all the traffic horrors of this kind of build out

what they should have done was run the vienna subway out to manassas not allow tons of building density increases and used the rapid transit bus system from tysons to dulles but what the dulles rail project was more about was giving an excuse to increase building density along the corridor and making the developers and land owners and govt. officials a hell of a lot of money and lot less to do with folks getting an easy commute to Tysons to shop or on to Dulles

Good idea, make it even bigger with all the currently empty stores there now.

Sears is not very good. They remodeled the store but kept the employees. The employees need a little remodeling to.

Did any of you read those articles? Yeah, the company got approval for 4.8 million sq ft of space, but it's not all mall space. It includes a hotel, office space and high-rise apartments. And it said the highest level of development WOULD NOT be allowed unless the Metrorail is extended. Like that's likely anytime soon.
