Who do the Redskins take in the 2011 NFL Draft?

The draft is this week. Let's start a discussion on who the Redskins should take with the 10th pick of the 2011 NFL Draft.

The Raiders' 2015 QB.

They should just pack it in early and start looking toward the 2012 season.

They should really trade down for more picks becuase they have a million holes. That said, they will probably take Jake Locker or Julio Jones.

Man I hope we trade down, I cant see taking a receiver at #10 when we were 31 out of 32 in total defense last year. Shanny said his primary area of concern is wide receiver but who knows how credible that is. He is an offensive minded coach but he could be putting up smokescreens.

Jake is too inaccurate, Id rather keep McNabb.

McNabb is done in DC. I would expect him to be traded to the Cardinals for a backup defense guy.

Which means they'll trade up for Cam Newton and be done for the draft.

Was Shanny a big draft guy in Denver? Seems like he prided himself on picking other team's rejects and turning them into stars.

The Redskins are better off going with a defensive lineman who they can get production out of early. Drafting offensive players for high amounts of money seem like a waste of a pick.

McNabb will be out of DC by the time the season starts, whenever that may be.

+1

The team desperately needs a true starting nose tackle for the 3-4, or they are going to be vulnerable to the run. Haynesworth has the physical skills to do this on certain downs, but he is a prick with bad conditioning, so they really need some fresh blood in there.

The offense what what 18th last year? The defensen was 31st. I'd say they need linemen on both sides of the ball.

True. A lot of good it does Shanny to draft a receiver in the Top 10 when Grossman is concussed on his back by the time he runs his route.

if they do pick at 10 i hope they go anywhere but QB/WR/RB

I think 2nd round Baylor DT Taylor or Miami CB Harris, possibly UVA CB Dowling if they can trade down

later on some interesting guys like LB Casey Matthews, LB Herzlich, Hampton DT Ellis, maybe USC OC O'Dowd

I'm saying that because the Redskins' culture will make them irrelevant until they go to a different team.

I like Fairley and Watt. Forget about the offense, lets let Shanny work his Free Agency magic when hunting season opens. There are a host of decent wide-outs that will be free agents this year. At QB, F it, Sexy Rexy it is.

You go Locker. Just because the thought of Rex Grossman is making me sick. I honestly do think Locker will be a great NFL qb. He had a down year at Washington but still put up good numbers, remember a lot of people thought he'd go first overall if he came out last year.

Then again the way the the Skins are looking, we can probably get the first overall pick next year and draft Andrew Luck of Stanford.

Yeah, that might be a little high but I think you'd have to take Locker there also. He can do a lot outside of the pocket and the Shanahans' love to roll out the QB. Seems like a good fit. You need a great QB to win and as long as you're rebuiling it's as good a place as any to start.

That said, the best idea would be to trade down if possibe.

saw an NFLN special a few weeks ago about how drafting a QB in the Top 10 increases your odds to win a Super Bowl, can't find a link for it though...

I did find this
http://www.drafthistory.com/index.php?/forums/viewthread/4/#10

lists all the 1st round qb's taken in the past 15 years, id say 14-16 of them are solid picks...

It won't. It's Snyder. Doesn't matter who is coaching or who is playing. It's the Snyder curse.

I hope more than anything it's not Snyder, hes not exactly old and doesn't seem like the type of person to just quit and sell the team

Have to find a way to win and make it work, at least he's not cheap like some of the other owners

My theory on Snyder is that he likes to play backroom politics with the front office. He likes it when players to end runs to him around the coach and GM. In fact, I believe he encourages it. There's no way a coach can be successful if his authority is constantly undermined in this fashion.

As for the spending money thing, I think that's a bunch of hype. First, NFL contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on. He doesn't pay big money for good players. He pays big money for "stars" that will move jerseys. And when it comes to the actual payday, look at his record. He is constantly trying to restructure these contracts. He'll do things like go after guaranteed money, like he did with Haynesworth and Deion Sanders. I think most of his contracts are like the one he signed with McNabb...big on paper but not in actual money.

Snyder is good at milking the Redskins cash cow. But he hasn't invested shit in Ashburn. They don't have a good indoor facility. Fed Ex Field sucks.

I really don't think the Skins' fortunes will change until Snyder sells. With any luck some of his other business ventures will go under, forcing him to sell.

He sucked in Chicago too and was almost cut from Denver in 2009. Not surprising that when he found his NFL career slipping away, he decided to grow up.

If you can't find it within yourself to practice and play well for Joe Gibbs, that's your problem, not Snyder’s.

It is when Snyder brings a mediocre receiver in on a ridiculously large contract and kisses his ass at Verizon Center for the press. Lloyd was a so-so receiver in SF and never deserved what he got from Snyder.

All good theories and points...

I do want to point out that FedEx Field was Jack Kent Cookes doing and even though FedEx isn't the best, he did install HD video boards and make the club level a lot nicer. The dream seats are a ton of fun but the view does suck.

Maybe if we give the Redskins more support and ignore Snyder, good things will follow? just throwing it out there..

Regarding FedEx Field, the biggest beef I have heard about it is how fucking loud it is during games. Not from the crowd, but from the ads and shit Snyder blares at everyone during breaks. Also, the shit Snyder has tried over the years of fucking with tail-gaters, keeping people from walking to the stadium, etc, just reinforces the image that he is a money-grubbing bastard who could give a fuck about fans or, frankly, the team outside of its balance sheet.

I think they need to take the best player available at 10. That wouldn't be Locker. Maybe Julio, though he might be overpriced in the end depending on what happens with the CBA.

What they need to do and what they will are two different things. I'm just giving my best guess as to what they WILL do. Really though, who knows? It's so hard to predict.

The Sports Reporters were saying that the whole draft-pick-trade-for-McNabb was Snyder's idea and that Shanny didn't want to do it at first but eventually went along. If it's true, one of the first things Shanny did was roll over and play Snyder's bitch. No wonder his tenure so far has sucked ass.

draft the best TE available in the draft. running a 4 TE set is ridiculous for the run blocking game and even passing if they have good hands (which cooley davis and paulsen do). The first two superbowls led by ole bart starr, of GB ran an offense with a 4 TE set. It's destined to work. You see the patriots are working on it too with Hernandez, gronkowsk, and bronsted lowry. and the patriots are probably gonna dominate the 2010 decade as well with all their draft picks and young talent as long as they can get a backup for brady.

Draft a TE shanahan!

I might not be too far off. From Peter King:

There are rumors aplenty in the final hours before tonight's 8 p.m. start. Washington trading up from 10 to try to get Blaine Gabbert.

If they trade down for more picks, fine. If they keep their positions and take the best player available once their turn comes around, even better. If they trade away more picks to grab a higher pick, that's like putting your eggs in one basket and it'll just be one more abomination for the team's recent stellar drafting history.

But seriously, bottom line --- it doesn't matter who they pick. Whoever is set to join the Washington Redskins tomorrow night better be prepared to accept the fact that no matter what their skills are, they won't be able to bring this team out of mediocrity and disconnect the franchise from the ball and chain of a failure that is Daniel M. Snyder.

I'm fairly young. I don't expect the Redskins to win a championship again in my lifetime, so long as Dan Snyder is at the helm, constantly steering the ship in circles.

Do the area a favor, Danny Boy. Sell the team! Sell!! The!! Team!!

16 and pick 49 in the second round.

I really like Locker though, I told you all I thought he was underrated by the media and personally think he does have a better skill set than Gabbert. I would have liked the Redskins to get him, but obviously they shouldn't have traded up.

Overall good decision, they should draft the best available player with the 16 pick (not a qb though, the other 3 are overrated), and should be able to get a good addition to the defensive line in the 2nd round with a deep draft at that position.

Da'Quan Bowers or Nick Fairley would be two great picks, they'll probably go before 16 but Skins would make out big if they got one of those two.

Eww terrible pick for Minnesota.

Agreed. The trade down makes sense, but a lot of the guys on the Skins list are gone.

I have watch Locker for the last 4 years and he is terrible, pure horibleness, plus very injury prone, this is the white version of the on the field JaMarcus.

I think the Skins did what they had to given the crappy position they were in coming into the draft. Maybe some more 3-4 or o- line help in the 2nd round. Just don't draft any punters.

Wow both these guys were gone at 10. Who would have thought the gift of Gab would be there?

Like the trade down for another pick but I know next to nothing about the guy they drafted. Is he related to Nancy? Orakpo has needed someone on the other side since they went to the 3-4.

Another defensive lineman,,,

I would have liked to see Hankerson (wr) from Miami, maybe he'll still be there at the next pick

I'm not sure trading down their 49th pick to 62 with an additional pick in the 5th round was such a good move. It might be worth it for a third round pick, but 5th?

I don't like this move at all,,,,it's just trading down to trade down

Agreed. Does Shanahan think there's a treasure trove of Armstrong and Banks in the 5th? Most of those guys will be free agents come the end of August. They really don't need to trade down for that junk.

Redskins are piling up picks in the late rounds,,,Espn also seems to think the Redskins will trade for C. Palmer

Really? I don't know what to think about that. He hasn't been the same since the knee injury.

Ha! I got one!

I like this pick a lot, watched quite a few games he played in, he was real tough
Amazed he lasted this long, this could be our sleeper star right here

I don't think they'll trade for Palmer but that's just me.

With this draft the Redskins seem to finally be admitting that they are rebuilding. I for one, am glad to see it. Another draft next year with 10-13 picks would be great. That said, would it have killed them to get a few O-Linemen?

I think they did a respectable job with the draft, especially given the hand they were dealt by Vinnie and Danny Boy. I think the first three picks were dead-on and it's possible they will find some serviceable backups in the remaining picks they had. I think Palmer is a solid QB, but the rest of the team is still such a cluster-fuck, I'm not sure how Palmer will perform any better than Grossman or McNabb in the current setting.
