Any old timers remember this office? Used to be at Wilson around Mario's Pizza where all the mid eastern used car dlrs are. My older sister is talking about it -- perhaps she had too much vino?

Your sister is correct. It is now called Java Shack or something like that. I think the Nazis had it until the late 60s. My buddy lived in Arlington at the time and said the guys would be decked out in full Nazi gear minus the MP40s of course.

The attached pic from google is suppsed to be the place. Imagine if you lived near it, never a dull momennt I would suspect.

I think it looked better as a Nazi recruiting office.

I remember when they used to march downtown on the Mall. There were
always groups there to heckle them but I always felt that if they had
just ignored them it would have been better. They gave the Nazi's
the attention they were seeking because the media was always around
hoping there would be a confrontation.

When I was new here some clown at work handed me a message with a
phone number on it saying, "George called and needs to speak with you
asap." I called the number and got a recording that said,
"Greetings White Worker!" ...so on an so forth about how if I'd lost
my job to a "spade" then I should pick up a shovel and kill him.

Back in the '60s we would call their pre-recorded phone message for a laugh. They changed it weekly, but it was always some rant against some minority or another. It was good for a laugh, but in retrospect it was pretty damn offensive.

The original Arlington Nazi Headquarters was located at Wilson Blvd. and Livingston St. The Picture above was their later location at Franklin Rd and Wilson Blvd. in Clarendon.

They still do. I snapped a few pics at a Nazi rally back in '08.

It was probably the most impressive showing of police I've ever seen. Literally an army of cops.

Also, a local newspaper recently did a story on the former Arlington building. IIRC, someone found some nazi-like items from the former owners. Mighta been in the City Paper or dome news blog like ArlNow, but I know I saw it within the past few months.

And that friendly chap in the middle's name is George Lincoln Rockwell.

History channel did one not too long ago, too.

@TheMeeper: That's a different group marching in DC You saw in 2008. The one that used to be in the Java Shack building doesn't do public marches anymore; haven't for over 25 years. They became a Hitlerian religious order waiting for the collapse of Western civilization when they will reemerge from hiding to take over. The visible ones today are funded by George Soros that anti-facist groups have something real to birch about.

George Lincoln Rockwell, American Nazi Party. Shot to death by one of his own in a Shopping center on Wilson Blvd. near Patrick Henry. It's still there. Good Riddance.

Yes. My dad used to have his HQ there in Arlington. Was killed right there at Mario's pizza. But nobody ever talks about how much he used to love Arthur Treacher's.

I lived in Arlington until 1962 and remember the house in the woods which was the HQ I think and the little shopping center where Rockwell was killed. I was seven when we moved to MD.

After we moved away my grandma lived in Arlington until the early 70's. I remember driving with her by the place and pointing out the places to me in the mid 60's. I recall it was during the winter, the trees were bare and the house had a swastika on the roof.

This is right. It's the shopping center that used to have a tippy's taco and soccer store (still might). The shooter was on the roof of the building.

Wasn't Rockwell doing his laundry when he was kilt?

They were there well into the 70's. We lit some fire crackers outside the place one summer night being bored teenagers with more spare time than sense, and two fellas came running out, one with a rifle in his hands. We kind of avoided the place after that. I thought that Rockwell was killed in a laundromat by his gay lieutenant that he was supposedly involved with. Last I knew, the building was q coffee house.

Half of you have got the wrong time periods, the wrong buildings identified, the wrong locations, the wrong activities, you've even got photographs of the wrong neo-Nazi groups. Rockwell was killed at the Dominion Hills Shopping Center in front of a laundromat; it's now a dry-cleaners. He wasn't killed near Mario's Pizza as someone mentioned above. Rockwell's living quarters was in an old farmhouse on what is now Upton Hills Regional Park. After Rockwell's assassination, the group changed its name and moved into what is now the Java Shack on Franklin Road. They remain there until the mid-1980s when they change their name and moved to Wisconsin.

Rockwell had several different locations as a headquarters at different times scattered around Arlington. Yes, the Java Shack was the headquarters of Rockwell's successors, but he never set foot in that building. Do you want to know where the correct location sorry to bug rifi's have been written about Rockwell. They are biased, anti-Nazi mainstream biographies so you can read them without getting your little feelings hurt or losing your sense of moral superiority.

I was once dispatch there on a service call back in the sixties. They had this German Shepherd named Bruno, Adolf or something that must have weighted close to a hundred pounds. He had this terrifying habit of putting his snout right in your crouch to the point your entire sex life flashed before your eyes and your dick wanted to climb on your shoulders. Noticing my intense discomfiture, they said not to worry because I was white and he only had a taste for dark 'meat'.

Agree with the mid 70s. Came down to DC from Baltimore where the Nazis had a place on Eastern Ave in the city. Surprised to see then in Arlington... was 1975. Later, saw them in Manassas near the train station.

Actually, NOT 1950s. This location remained used up into the late 1970s. I graduated from HS in '79, and this cruddy building is just a mile or two from my high school. I remember the chilling feeling of driving by it then--but of also remembering the USA is built on the concept of free speech. Nazi ideology after WWII was defeated in the USA by MORE free speech, not suppression of the speech of the wicked Nazis.
